I am going to imagine it is about 12 inches, so you could get a wireframe rack that is about 4inches tall and put the Saturn ontop of the Wiiu. Enough space for both heat dispersion and for the Saturn cd opener. Or reverse it and put the Wiiu on top, but you would need a much taller rack.
That is a great idea!
I do it with my bluray player over my surround sound receiver.
Bad picture of it under the spoiler.
The rack actually came with the house and I had previously used it to hold up cans in my shed.

That looks like an easy way to get the height and also good ventilation for the Receiver and even the underside of the Bluray player. Maybe add some shelf wall extensions (couple steel rods all the way across?) to get rid of the legs of that wire shelf; less chance of it walking off the Receiver when changing a disc. Or just add a shelf for a cleaner and solid look?
In my case there is no easy way to add a shelf that would blend in. I could add a the hooks to it and cut the legs off, thats not a bad idea. But for now we are leaving it as is. The legs do not move without a decent shove, and I am really the only one who operates the bluray player.
When I had a Wii I stood it vertically from 2007 to 2012 with no issues. When Smash Bros was released some reports circulated that the console should be laid horizontally but I didn't. When Nintendo removed backwards compatibility with the gamecube they had boxes with the console laying horizontally. My WiiU is stood vertically as well.
In any event I feel these two consoles can handle it. They have a much lower power requirements so less heat generated. Nintendo makes great quality products.
As a side note I keep my Xbox 360 (first S model) and PS3 (latest model) horizontally. I install my games on the HDD for the 360 so afterwards there is no disc spin.
