I downloaded the demo on PSN and played it through 8 times. Just waiting for the fat man in the red suit to put it under my tree now and all will be well on Christmas day :D

It's a very mixed bag for me - I love jumping across open roof-tops and figuring out where i've got to go on the run, but far too often the game has you confined in small areas. Also, the gameplay is very trial and error, often leaving the player with no clue as to where to go - for a game that promoted momentum and speed, this is a real issue imo. Finally, the combat is very awkward and while combat isn't meant to be the focus, there are too many sections requiring you to use combat - the game seems to love throwing multiple enemies at you that you have no chance of successfully dealing with, leaving you to painstakingly lure individual enemies out on there own so they can be dealt with one by one - also, it's impossible to tell whether the game wants you to run or to fight; sometimes you'll be forced to fight to get through, but sometimes the game just expects you to run past and it's impossible to tell what the game wants you to do - all of this is compounded by the awkward combat, the trial and error nature of the gameplay and the games insistance on throwing multiple enemies at you in confined spaces.

I enjoy the free running aspect of Mirror's Edge, and I like the sterile graphical style, but the game really seems to lack focus - people are praising the game for taking 1st person perspective gaming further than ever before, but in my opinion people should be looking at the criminally underrated Project Breakdown by NAMCO on the original Xbox; it wasn't a perfect game, but it focused on doing a couple of things really well - combat and 1st person immersion. To me, Mirror's Edge has no real focus and as such suffers for it - if it was focused primarily on the free running aspects, I could forgive the lackluster story & combat.

Since I don't understand first-person games, I'll suggest everyone try looking at the official (EA supported) 2D beta version of Mirror's Edge by Brad Borne.

I'm also waiting for the pc release to add on to the fact that there is so much shit out right now. User content would flock to a game like ME.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?
