Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I've been told by others that my childhood sucked because my parents (thankfully) never did the Santa and Easter Bunny thing with me. Gee, I sure was fooled. I really thought I was having fun anyway.o.pwuaioc wrote:I am firmly against Santa and the Easter Bunny, and think they do children more harm than good. Parents paying for a wedding is, to me, a nice tradition (like Santa or the Easter Bunny) and not a bad one (like hazing or legacy admissions). But, certainly, there's no shame in bucking it.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I think its interesting Dsh is suggesting parents pay for a wedding in a traditional matter, despite some of the other stuff he's said.
I think if my parents had insisted those things were true and I then one day discovered it was a lie, I would have lost trust in them.

My parents treated the Easter Bunny greatly. When my youngest brother turned six, the Easter Bunny stopped bringing gifts and brought us a tool every year, so when we got to college we had a full toolbox. It also brought us a family movie every year. One year it was the Terminator 1&2 VHS boxset. So we got an Imperial Wrench set and Terminator, best Easter ever.o.pwuaioc wrote:I am firmly against Santa and the Easter Bunny, and think they do children more harm than good. She was an US Ambassador for Ghana for many years, then later for Czechoslovakia. She purposefully dropped out of the limelight.BoringSupreez wrote:That's unfortunate... had no idea she was still alive though.Ack wrote:Shirley Temple has died.

Man, Donna Joe Tanner was kind of a jerk. She dated a guy for his money, forgot her best friend's birthday, back stabbed Becky, turned her back on Eddie who had Alzheimer's, stole Kathy Santone's boyfriend, almost had a horse put down, and also broke Steve's heart several times.

I am not a fan of the easter bunny/santa claus....I have always been a firm advocate of being honest with my kids. If I want to encourage imagination, there are other ways to do so than that with an imaginary holiday being.fastbilly1 wrote:My parents treated the Easter Bunny greatly. I remember when I was around 3 or 4 years old, my parents had sold our dog, who was a menace, the night before easter, unbeknownst to me. The next day, our parents hid our baskets with which we would use for our easter egg hunt and mine was put in the freezer, unreachable by me.
During the egg hunt I wondered where my dog went and my parents said the Easter Bunny stole him.
That Easter Bunny is a dick.
