Modded PS1 skipping game Help
Modded PS1 skipping game Help
Hi. So quite awhile back I bought a modded PS1. All the games I burned for it skipped during cut scenes and the audio skipped. As well the game would lag and eventually crash or freeze. I later found out the laser was dead an so I recently had a new one installed and now my games run great, well, some of them. Some games still skip on cut scenes and others don't. One even refuses to boot up at all and sticks on the PS1 game boot screen with the red and blue PS logo. I don't think it's the discs because some games that skip are on the same brand of discs as some that work perfect. They're even from the same pack of CD-R's I bought. I don't think it's the laser because as I said I just had a fresh one installed. I've heard that my computer's burning laser could be dying and giving some bad burns. Could that be it? What else could it be? PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Re: Modded PS1 skipping game Help
i too had a skipping problem with PS1 games , the FMV's would skip and music
around that time i was doing research in the art of burning to CD-R and DVD-R , simply not all burners burn equally.
i did some more research and bought 4 Liteon's of a specific model , after that i used Taiyo Yuden CD-R's and Discjuggler to burn the ISOS.
since then ive had no problems....................
if you want to get a new burner head of to Club MyCE forums where i asked what burner to buy.
ask there im looking for a new burner that causes low C1/C2 errors..............
also i would suggest while your at it clean the laser with Isopropyl Alcohol and grease the rails and gears with White Lithium Grease or Silicone Grease.
recently i fixed one of my PS1's that was skipping and wouldnt boot , it would get stuck at the black logo 8 out of 10 times.
i ' realigned ' the laser and it works amazingly , i tested it over 3 days and it only got stuck at the black logo once i remember total times tested 35.

Re: Modded PS1 skipping game Help
what model PS1 are you using? some of the earlier models had known issues with FMV skipping, even on official discs.

Aye, my 1001 does that, and skips music on a handful of things as well (Street Fighter Collection 2 comes to mind).aaron wrote:what model PS1 are you using? some of the earlier models had known issues with FMV skipping, even on official discs.

I have a 5501. But it's never had trouble running official discs in any regard just burned ones.aaron wrote:what model PS1 are you using? some of the earlier models had known issues with FMV skipping, even on official discs.

your situation sounds identical to mine from your first post to this one , definitely do what i mentioned previously.
also a fantastic burner wont cost the earth i bought my Liteons for $29.95 each , its a matter of sifting through the shit ones and finding the great burners.
Club MyCE is the place to go to ask what burner to get , below is a ' scan ' of a Dreamcast game i burnt you want results like these................

Thanks. I'll look into it. So 1. look into new burner on myCE. 2. realign my laser 3. try your bran of CD-R's and Discjuggler for burning. Did I miss something or get anything wrong? Also, I'll look on that forum site but do you have any reccomendations for a burner or supplies specifically?

1. actually start a thread and ask for a burner that produces great burns and low C1/C2 errors and is capable of doing accurate scans with Nero CD-DVD Speed.
btw most burners cant scan accurately so you need one that can do it and do it accurately.
2. i dont believe you laser needs realigning its the way your games are burnt , if all fails then we will go down the realign method if you want to know how to do it let me know...........
oh and dont tweak the pot that will be the last thing you should do
3. definitely get Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs and dont get them off ebay they will most likely be counterfeits. There are reputable online shops out there check with Club MyCE where to get them from.
most people use IMGburn to burn their stuff i found that for PS1 Discjuggler does a better job as in i did a burn of the same game and same burn speed then did a scan.
Discjuggler had less C1/C2 errors...............
also many people will say burn at the slowest speed your burner will go , basically thats for old old burners things have changed since then.
i read this over at Club MyCE theres a sticky on it...........
theres a sweet spot for burning burnable media ill concentrate on CD-R for now , basically burn the same ISO at X8 then X16 then X24 then X32 and do a scan of each.
for my Liteons X16 is the sweet spot as the C1/C2 errors in the scans were the lowest.
I'll look on that forum site but do you have any reccomendations for a burner
with my 4 Liteons they are model IHAS324 B , when i was researching for a new burner through Club MyCE in the IHAS324 models theres A,B,Y and the newly released C.
Y is the best its a Optiarc other than that A and B is what you want , C was just released and untested.
Did I miss something or get anything wrong?
you've done great i would add one more thing though...........clean the laser with Isopropyl Alcohol and grease the rails and gears with White Lithium Grease or Silicone Grease.
you can do this at a later time after your burning and testing is a success , if you think about it your PS1 is about a 18 year old console and for sure it is dry of grease.
i actually did 5 of my 900x series PS1's recently and it was very dry there was a speck in a couple of places but the rest was dry.
Re: Modded PS1 skipping game Help
I posted on the forum but until I hear back I may look into your model. There's a specialty tech shop in my city that may be able to get me one, and the CD-R's. So look for a Y, A, or B model Liteon burner with least C1/C2 Errors and accurate scan for nero scanning? I'll start poking around.s8n wrote:with my 4 Liteons they are model IHAS324 B , when i was researching for a new burner through Club MyCE in the IHAS324 models theres A,B,Y and the newly released C.

I'm a little worried about doing that. I have no idea how to do that and I don't want to mess it up. Like I said, it's a fresh laser unit and I don't want to mess it up.s8n wrote:grease the rails and gears with White Lithium Grease or Silicone Grease.
Re: Modded PS1 skipping game Help
The laser works a bit harder trying to read a burned disc over pressed discs. Everytime that laser eye and assembly has to jump around is wear. Kicking up the pot to less resistance will also decrease its lifespan. If the game is inexpensive, might be better to buy the game to help your PS1 last longer? Maybe go the CDR route only for games that are hard to find?
Concur, try to go 1x or 2x.s8n wrote:oh and dont tweak the pot that will be the last thing you should do
