Easy peasy. Just tell Popo there's a heist afoot to rob him of his NWC cart, and then you and Hobie can talk about how much you two hate platformers all night long.Ack wrote:You know, I would hang out with him more, but every time I see him, he gets drunk and shouts, "Deus Ex SUCKS!" and then Popo shows up, and they fight. Platformers are a genre where I feel like I should like them more than I do. There's a few series that I really like (Mega Man, Metroid, Castlevania, Mario, Kirby), but then when you get into random other platformers I'm just not that interested, even if they are objectively as much fun (if not more so) than a game I already like.Ack wrote:You know, I would hang out with him more, but every time I see him, he gets drunk and shouts, "Deus Ex SUCKS!" and then Popo shows up, and they fight. The letters and numbers next to the "board" of snes games, visible from looking into the cart...Do they matter? I have three copies of Link to the past and am considering selling one of them. Not sure if one is "worth" more than the others.

Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
I love 2D platformers. They're probably nearly my favorite genre.
Though I tend to be drawn more towards the ones with an action focus, or characters that actively attack. I'm not quite as big on the "hop'n bop" style outside of Mario and Sonic.
It's a genre that's very easy to do badly. It seems simple enough, but a lot of games thoughtlessly clone popular titles without understanding the game design principles that made those titles balanced and fun to begin with.

You know, outside Mario and Donkey Kong, I don't own very many hop-n-bops on the SNES either. I don't think it was ever the dominant platformer. I think the run-n-guns like Contra or Strider-likes like Ninja Gaiden were always more popular.

No, but my own personal opinion, I would be sure to keep one that was produced later rather than earlier. I was explaining before in this thread, I've found that earlier SNES carts can more easily have their SRAM corrupted or whatever. It has to do with the way the SRAM battery was handled early on, which was like NES carts. Later produced carts handled the SRAM in a different way, and from my own (bad) luck, I've found it to be much better.Luke wrote:The letters and numbers next to the "board" of snes games, visible from looking into the cart...Do they matter? Did you do it with one of the 1000/2000 maps they give you? I hear 61 is the best to get 500,000.Ack wrote:With SimCity, I played through each of the city scenarios and built cities from scratch to the largest possible city size numerous times. But growing up, my SNES copy of SimCity was one of my favorite games to go back to whenever I was feeling bored, so I've probably logged somewhere around 500+ hours into it over the course of two decades.

I actually did it with a couple of different maps, though I couldn't say which numbers. I did tend to go for maps with more landmass to build on.
But the weirdest one I ever had was Tokyo. For some reason the monster appeared and then turned around without ever touching land, and boom, I had a major city already built!

500,000 isn't your last goal...
A megalopolis is the best city class you can get, the music wont change, and you wont get any gifts. Just a nice congrats. But, it is the highest achievement to get in the game.
Was it 61 that has the least amount of water? I was able to get a Megalopolis twice now. The second time I was aiming for 600k, but stalled not far past 500k. My last attempt to get 600k was looking very promising, but I lost my damn save file for that city! And that's actually exactly what I was talking about in my last post in this thread.

Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Just started playing the Star Ocean repro I got last night for a couple hours. Really getting into it. The combat is a bit button mashy but it flows really well. The audio samples of the captain in the intro was really muffled and hard to understand but the ladies voice was really clear.
Only about an hour and a half in, spent about 30 min grinding a bit when I got to the first health well trying to get Milly up to at least level 8, she was super fragile and kept getting one shotted. Can't wait to get home and put some more time into this one.
Anyone have any tips for me?
