Besides my frustration with the game on that one particular level, the game isn't bad at all. The Water Gun controls are a bit rough and the only major gripe I really have is Mario's turnaround jump happens a lot when you don't want to and end up jumping off a cliff...it is really really finicky.
I just think it wasn't meant to be on the gamecube. It would have been better as a Wii game.
It would have been better as an original IP rather than as a Mario game. Most of the hate for that game stems from the fact that it's so different from Mario 64 or Galaxy. People would give it a lot more slack if it didn't have such a big name to live up to.
If Devil May Cry had been a Resident Evil or if Project Snowblind had been a Deus Ex title, I bet they would have been hated too.

Good to know. If I ever get it I'll play it on my Wii.
Games not beaten:
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. 3DS
Phantasy Star Online PC
Atelier Totori Plus: The Adventurer of Arland PSN
Off the list: None
On the list: Atelier Totori Plus
Not much moving this month. Most of my month was spent playing Layton and Metal Gear, so I didn't have much time to play Atelier Totori.
Mario & Luigi I've been taking a break from. I want to go back to it soon, but it's one of a great many RPGs I'm playing, so it might have to wait until I finish some others first.
Phantasy Star Online I just gave up on after the servers died on me. I probably won't be going back this year.
I've given up on Alice: Madness Returns for now. I will probably come back to it some day. It is just way too long. I've been playing for what seems like hours and hours and am only at level three of six. It's not really a good enough game to vie for my attention, especially when I've got FFXII on the go.
I also downloaded, played and then deletedCivilization: Revolution for the 360. The lack of options and game modes is outstanding and on every turn I thought "Man, I could just be playing regular Civ or Alpha Centauri", so I stopped. They also managed to make capturing cities into a real chore whilst erasing any strategy to it. And it's oddly violent. For a game that is aimed towards a younger audience it sure does have an over abundance of barbarians to slaughter. I swear, I killed more pygmies in one short game of this than I have in the entirety of my long Civ career. Oh well, at least it was free.
I've given up on castlevania circle of the moon and breath of fire 4, havent had much time to play either and since FFX is out this Tuesday they are both as good as given up on lol

Yeah, Civ Revolution seems pretty crappy. There's no point in playing these console rip offs when you can just play more authentic Civ games imo.

I think it was more intended to bring in new fans from console gamers than it was to please already existing fans.
Typing of the Dead: Overkill. I'm liking it, but it will take a while to finish because it's the kind of game I'll play for like 30 minutes at a time, then do something else.
