So the next MGS is a $40 glorified demo.

I wonder if they ever approached Kurt Russell to reprise his imitated Snake character?

Seen this coming for a while now, just didn't expect the terrible pricing. I'm a massive MGS fanboy but I won't be purchasing Ground Zeroes. Also add in the fact that Konami has stated that The Phantom Pain won't release until Q3 2015 or even 2016 and I've lost any hype I had for it.

Am I missing something? Where, in that article, does it give any reason to indicate Ground Zeroes is "a glorified demo"?

Edit: Never mind, it's in this article: http://www.gamerevolution.com/features/ ... und-zeroes

It's a "glorified demo" because it can be completed in well under 2 hours. Basically it's like the tanker mission from MGS2, but it's sold separately from the rest of the game (which won't be out for another 2 years apparently?), and at too high a price tag.

There is more to it than just a 2 hour story though, right? Right...? :?

Otherwise, yeah, everything seems to point to it just being a demo pretending it's a full price game. It'll be interesting to see what the reviews are like when it comes out. I can't believe they would get away with charging that much.

Kind of? There's supposed to be a handful of challenge missions or something.

I'm just going to hold out for the full game. I'm willing to bet you'll be able to get a hold of the Ground Zeroes content through a 'complete' or Special Edition version of The Phantom Pain.

By no means do I think you guys are being unreasonable for not wanting to pay $40 for 2 hours of story and 2 more hours of side missions.

However I think we should all try to hold out judgment until after we actually see the content Ground Zeroes will have. It may be only 4 hours total, but I think it matters more how fun those 4 hours are.

Keep in mind that indie games on PC and PSN are in similar dollar per hour ranges, but nobody ever cares if those have a short length. Journey only takes between one to two hours to complete depending on how much you like exploring, has no bonus side missions, and that costs $15.

Another thing to keep in mind is that no one is forcing anyone to buy Ground Zeroes at launch. You can always wait until it hits $20, which I think will probably come quickly. I can stomach $20 for 2 hours, that's no worse than the average DVD.

I feel this is a dangerous move because if the reception isn't good, it's going to hurt MGS5 one way or another. Though my friend was telling me they're now saying Phantom Pain probably won't even hit until 2015 or something.

I really don't want to get too caught up in the hours of gameplay per dollar ratio conversation. It's just sort of annoying how the game is being split up like this just to make more money. Add that to all the misinformation and confusion over the past year about whether the Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes were the same game or not and it could really damage the series' reputation.

As a huge MGS fan that's probably what I fear most. How many casual game fans are going to walk into a store next month and see "MGS5" on the shelf and instantly jump at the purchase without the knowledge that this is just a prologue?

And yes, Konami said in a financial meeting a couple days ago that The Phantom Pain won't hit until Q3 2015 or Q3 2016!!! depending on how development goes.
