Any of the Homebrew Dreamcast gamesworth playing?

Post by bacardipr05 »

As im about to wrap up playing Grandia 2 soon i was looking for something new that i could play. Didnt think i would like Grandia 2 but its pretty straight forward RPG and you dont spend hours lost in mazes which is a big plus. Moving on i was looking at the tons of homebrewed games and was wondering if any of them are worth playing. Im familiar with some the BOR line of games and some of them are well done but they are essentially the same games. Im not talking about games like Sturmwind or other Indie games but the homebrewed types of games(hopefully i got the terms right). Thanks for any and all input.

you did, and most people don't see the distinction. So good on you!

As far as homebrew releases go, you're right - a lot of them are based on BOR. There's some good ones there like the Splatterhouse Trilogy, Castlevania or the Simpsons Arcade one.

But as far as other stuff...

2D House of Terror was pretty cool. It was actually released on XBLA as well. It's a collection of mini games with a cutesy/macabre tone.

I'm not sure if you'd consider the port of Doom technically "homebrew," but it's cool and even offers online play (but only w/ the BBA).

I'm also not sure if you'd call the port of They Hunger homebrew, but it is an awesome mod based on the Half-Life engine. Same w/ Counter Strike.

Jump N Blob is another one that I'd recommend. A fun little platformer.

Neverball is sort of like Super Monkey Ball.

The SQRXZ games are supposed to be pretty good - also platformers.

Here is a link to the best tutorial on Youtube :
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)

Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping! :)

Speaking of that there is a new awesome He-Man beats of rage game that I would love to put on a dreamcast disc.

EDIT: I just tried to compile a DC version of the He-Man mod but I can't use selfboot.exe since my rig is Win64. If anyone is running a 32 bit version of windows and can make a discjuggler image of this game it would be awesome.
