Gotta wrap their shoe, protect it from breaking.
Re: Sonic Boom (Wii U) announced.
Sonic's blue arms (and his odd strands of "hair" between the spines) drive me crazy, but other than that I don't mind the new designs.
The game itself looks interesting. I'd like to see more.
This strikes me as a tie in game though, to cross promote with the new cartoon. So on that note, I'd be surprised if these designs applied to the main SegaSonic universe.

I think one of the reasons why the Sonic games always seem so varied is due to concurrent development by different teams and Sega allowing them to make what they want. Maybe Sega wants to have several Sonic franchises running at once?

I don't see this as a Reboot of SegaSonic either. Though I wish they'd rethink the SegaSonic designs too. This strikes me as a tie in game though, to cross promote with the new cartoon. So on that note, I'd be surprised if these designs applied to the main SegaSonic universe.

This is my takeaway, too. I honestly don't know what to make of these character designs. Having had a day to think about it, I think I'm kind of intrigued. This kind of thing is welcomed in other media like comics or cartoons, why not in a Sonic spin-off?CFFJR wrote:Sonic's blue arms (and his odd strands of "hair" between the spines) drive me crazy, but other than that I don't mind the new designs.

Need to see more gameplay but this might be a first day purchase. Any word on online co-op?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Sonic Boom (Wii U) announced.
Thankfully Nintendo doesn't do that kind of shit. This just seems like an extension of the whole "dude with a 'tude" thing. I guess it worked back in the '90's though?
The character designs are not great but the game itself does look at least interesting so far. From what I have seen it seems more like an adventure game than a 3D platformer?

Joking aside, there's nothing wrong with playing around with established designs, and apparently this is a western market only venture and a spin-off. Sometimes it's fun to look at an old idea from a fresh perspective.
If this were intended to replace SegaSonic I could see some issues but it's not. It's more akin to the 90's cartoons and comics as its own separate thing. There's a lot of precedent for "alternate" versions of Sonic already.
And unlike Knuckles that jacked Luigi looks awesome. You're making me want a Mario themed beat'em up with similar designs.

Re: Sonic Boom (Wii U) announced.
I'm rather glad to see Sega making this a Western thing. No offense to any Sonic X fans, but to me that show was absolutely awful and was only a bad influence on the franchise. Crappy unnecessary new characters that wound up in games, terrible VAs who eventually acted in games, it's a favorite among the worst types of Sonic fans, and it gave us the cringeworthy "Gotta go fast!" Western Sonic shows have leaked far less negative influence into the games.Gunstar Green wrote:...Lazer wrote:
