Check Out www.retromags.com !

Post by Frag Mortuus »

I stumbled across this page a little while back and have been meaning to share it. Basically this guy has scans and .pdf files of tons of old gaming magazines. He tries to keep it to retro magazines that aren't available anymore. He isn't trying to be a pirate, he just wants to preserve these old magazines. Which I love reading, looking at the advertisements and seeing what the reviewers had to say about the old games.

Retromags is well-known around these parts and on retrogaming forums generally. It's what rekindled my desire to have physical copies of Nintendo Power. They lost tons of stuff when MegaUpload went down a few years ago, I wonder if they have it all up again. Phillyman, who now runs it (still?), is a fellow member.

They had a nothing after 1999 policy, which I think was then modified a bit, all for legality concerns.

An awesome site. I always consult them before I order coppies on ebay of my favorite reading material from my youth. Nostalgia is awesome and they host all the text-based magazines as well as more than I ever knew existed. They basically take care of the entire videogame printed archival effort aside from the manuals. If I had a bit more free time than I do, I'd take a lot of pleasure from Photoshop melding the pages of the 2 page or fold-out layouts. I really want to. All I can do is donate. Please donate to the cause.

Looks interesting.

So many games looked great in retrospect in mags, only to suck superbad when released.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.
