We met through friends, so we have some of those in common. Also movies, music, our cats (she's totally crazy about cats, and though I try to hide it, I'm really not much better), and sex of course. We go to a lot of concerts together, too. She also used to be a stoner, but now I'm alone on that one because it suddenly started giving her panic attacks out of nowhere.Hazerd wrote:For you guys that have significant others that dont care for your video game hobby, what other interests do you share or not share

Re: How Does Your Wife/Girlfriend Feel About Your Retro Gami
Luckily I share a lot of common interests with my girlfriend because I don't think "sex appeal" is my strong suit.
Outside of games which I'm much more into than her, we both have degrees in English and like to read and write. We both love science-fiction and comics. We both really enjoy bird watching, wildlife and nature in general.
Our shared love of birds is especially helpful since we don't find each other insane when one of us pulls the car over to check out a Killdeer guarding its nest or something.

I'm single as of now, but my ex-boyfriend was simply flabbergasted as to why anyone would want to play any game beyond a few years old.

That is an idea that drives me nuts. My wife and I believe that fun is fun, regardless of age. The only thing she doesn't understand is why I keep playing Shenmue so much!lisalover1 wrote:I'm single as of now, but my ex-boyfriend was simply flabbergasted as to why anyone would want to play any game beyond a few years old.

My wife is a puzzle game fiend. She loves Dr.Mario, Tetris, Mean Bean Machine, Columns, bust-a-move, you name it. She rather dive off a cliff than watch me play a game like Skyrim, or Assassin's Creed (anything long and drawn out) but she'll watch me play just about any retro game (loves watching Sonic).
I've been transposing a lot of video game music to piano sheet music lately and the misses frequently requests that I play the Starlight Zone theme or the music to the first level of Golden Axe.

I feel like I'm one of the lucky ones, since my girlfriend of two years loves games almost as much as I do, and like me, grew up playing them. Our tastes differ slightly, but 90% of the time, we're either having a blast playing a co-op game together, or pursuing our own separate games. Right now I'm playing through Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Final Mix which I got her for Christmas, as she's a huge KH fan. The real gift wasn't the game itself, but more my promise to finally sit down and play through it. And while I'm beating up on Heartless, she's playing Pokemon X on our new 3DS and offering me the occasional tip or piece of advice.
As far as her feelings towards my retro gaming/collecting, she approves whole-heartedly, often enabling the habit by tipping me off to good finds on our local buy/sell/trade Facebook group. I owe her for picking up my Sony Trinitron, N64, Sega Saturn, and countless other awesome additions to my collection. And besides our mutual love for video games both new and old, we have almost identical tastes in TV, Movies, Music, and Literature, and also both enjoy D&D and Magic the Gathering. So yeah, I can't complain since she's more or less my nerd soulmate. Definitely a keeper.

See, this is how we prove that people that like sports are crazy. Football, soccer, baseball, and basketball? And what about those silly Olympics? Those games are older than dirt!lisalover1 wrote:I'm single as of now, but my ex-boyfriend was simply flabbergasted as to why anyone would want to play any game beyond a few years old.

So you are a "gamer girl" who found a guy that hates games... man opposites really do attract, do yourself a favor and find yourself a "gamer guy" cause i wouldnt be caught dead with a girl who opposed games.lisalover1 wrote:I'm single as of now, but my ex-boyfriend was simply flabbergasted as to why anyone would want to play any game beyond a few years old.
