Well that certainly stinks. Have you considered bending the rules and putting up the fence anyway? My HOA is a bit cut throat, but it has been almost four years and I still haven't installed a railing for the stairs that lead to my front door.

Of course if they'll make you take it down it isn't worth your time or money, but if your HOA handles claims very s-l-o-w-l-y you might be able to get away with it. If your neighbors don't complain, perhaps no one will.
Actually, his HOA is openly fraudulent, so...yeah...
Yeah the HOA board hired a lawyer using HOA funds to protect itself from the members of the HOA. They also stated they will step down at the beginning of this year and just appointed all of their spouses as new members of the board for the next two years after stating they are mailing out ballets to vote for the new board. So yeah, it is the most corrupt entity I have ever dealt with and I have worked in the recording industry.

My neighbor who could technically see it is renting and she does not care. She actually wants me to put up a fence so her dogs do not accidentally get in the garden when she lets them out and wants to help maintain it.

Sadly, I live in the boonies with an HOA. Our next house will be further out and on more land (mostly since land in our area has doubled in price due to recent highway construction).

HOAs are biggest ant on the anthill. Any tiny amount of power or influence is used as justification to harass the neighbors.

Now I live in a place where deer in the backyard isn't considered a nuisance; it's considered good hunting. I can have livestock in my backyard, and I don't need to ask permission from anyone.

By the way, community gardens still exist. I am going to be participating in a community garden this spring.
Deer are a nuisance out at our farm aswell. They keep jumping into one of the fenced off areas for our baby horse and scaring the crap out of him - thats not a metaphor, he hits the wall pretty high and I am tired of scraping it off.

I know that community gardens still exist, but they are far more rare than they should be.

I bet you know somebody who knows somebody who loves to hunt deer. He might even give you some venison if you let him hunt on your property.

If everything you say about your HOA is true, I wouldn't waste my time asking permission to build a fence. Just build it already. You and your neighbor could probably build it in one weekend.

Go against the grain FastB and Build That Fence!

This should probably go in the smile thread, but eh...

After a 4pm meeting I'm off to see and meet Kymia Nawabi: http://kymianawabi.com/
We're hosting her traveling exhibit, beginning tomorrow, and she'll be hyping up our local Art Museum. I'll be sure to take a few pictures with the "World's Next Top Artist".

But seriously, her art creeps me out.

We do have friends and relatives that love to hunt, but even with them being out there most weekends, we still have too many. When we buy our house with land the food farming area is getting a Jurassic Park fence around it. Possibly with a deerstand in the form of a tower in a corner of it. Itll be like the raptor cage.

So you want the most inept fence ever made? The electricity never stays on (and when it is on it will send you a flyin'), the fences are as sturdy as balsa wood, and animals with brains the size of an almond can pick the locks.

Yeah, but you can shoot those. You shoot the HOA and the police start asking questions.

All it has to do is keep deer out, and they cant operate doors. No need for electric when it is this big, check it:

Itll be a helluva thing to explain to people who come over...

Believe it or not, the bats are actually a protected species. Illegal to kill. Not that I'd want to be shooting animals in my attic anyway, sounds like a disaster.

We had one-way doors put in - bats get out, but can't come back in. They had to find a new place to roost.

My parents have bat houses on their property - like bird houses but for bats. You can see them flying in/out around dusk. Pretty cool.
