Re: YOU and MMORPG's (OMG!)
I just got a key for the weekend beta for Elder Scrolls: Online ...although I am very pessimistic about the game, I am still curious to know what they plan on doing with it.

My friend keeps badgering me about getting it. I was excited at first by the idea, but everything I've seen since has lessened that. From a gameplay to lore perspective, it just doesn't look like an Elder Scrolls game.BogusMeatFactory wrote:I just got a key for the weekend beta for Elder Scrolls: Online ...although I am very pessimistic about the game, I am still curious to know what they plan on doing with it.

yeah that is my worries. I will give it an honest try, but I really don't know if it will be any good.Sload Soap wrote:My friend keeps badgering me about getting it. Re: YOU and MMORPG's (OMG!)
My first MMO was Ragnarok Online. It was fun at first, back when they weren't trying to extend its lifespan well past endgame content and the economy hasn't gone down the crapper yet.
And then they started adding stuff for max level characters and then they came out with the rebirth thingie. It got too grindy and the gap between new players and veterans became too wide that it's no longer fun to play if you're not willing to invest a massive chunk of your life.
Our country's version is still going on to this day, but it's full of bots and mega billionaires and people who sell in-game currency for real money.
From Ragnarok Online, I've gone to other Korean-made MMOs like Cabal Online, Tantra, Silkroad, etc. but all of them wnt in the same direction - with shit in-game economies.
I've always wondered why MMO devs always create MMORPGs with infinite resources and money. Which ensured that everybody can become in-game billionaires, with in-game inflation and NPC shops that are worthless. I don't think it's technically impossible to program it in ways where there's a set amount of money in their world and NPC shops can only buy things if they have funds (so that you can't earn a million bucks selling something over and over to an npc). Kind of like what they did with bitcoins.
I think the last two MMOs I've played were Champions Online and DC Universe Online, both of which were nice in the sense that money and gears aren't too important unless you're really obsessed with PVP (which also lessens the tendency to devolve into Pay-to-Win territory.) I stopped playing when I downgraded my PC to something that only uses a non-gaming IGP.

So other than Eve, which MMO do you think has the best world PvP?

I agree too. I don't know though. Bethesda has a pretty good track record with games over the years. Only one way to find out right?Sload Soap wrote:My friend keeps badgering me about getting it. WoW's was good at times. A friend and I once picked a fight down in Stranglethorn or whatever it was called that resulted in both sides repeatedly calling in friends. After a few hours of the back and forth, we left, but returned three days later to find the fight was still going on. It had its moments, but I never did care for the forced separation of races.ZeroAX wrote:So other than Eve, which MMO do you think has the best world PvP?
Asheron's Call also had a good one, where anyone could band with anyone, though the combat system was always flawed. I remember my first experience getting on there, where I came face to face with a low-level death squad as soon as I walked out of the first place. They were hunting players for their starter gear and selling it in a nearby town. I ran to a nearby castle populated by a group of rivals and enjoyed watching them suddenly get mowed down by a couple of archers. It's interactions like that which you just can't beat.
Re: YOU and MMORPG's (OMG!)
My first MMORPG was Runescape, which still holds a nostalgic place in my heart. Don't really think I could ever go back to it though.
After on and on playing Runescape for like two or three years I eventually got burnt out and quit playing. Then for another few years I bounced back and forth between countless F2P MMO's, most of them from Korea. All of them were essentially the same grind fest of fetch quests with no real story or purpose and terrible pacing.
And now I've recently gotten into World of Warcraft. It's a lot of fun. Actually has some lore worth caring about, and the combat is a lot of fun.
I'm currently interested in trying some other MMO's. Guild Wars has always interested me, and of course Guild Wars 2 is out now as well. There's a new Everquest that's suppose to be coming out that sounds interesting. And of course Elder Scrolls Online. I don't know if I'll ever actually play any of those however. With how big my backlog of non-MMO games is I don't think I can sink my time into more than one MMO.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

GEDDIT!!! No sub fee, combat that is more active than just stand there and hit the monster, big world that's only getting bigger, and it gets new game releases every 2 weeks! It has a cash shop, but it is not P2W. Most stuff in the cash shop is just cosmetic, what isn't can be found in the game world anyway. And, being a newer MMO, the playerbase is of course active and in my experience pretty friendly. Ignore the forums though.MrEco wrote:I'm currently interested in trying some other MMO's. Speaking of Guild Wars 2, anyone here read about those story leaks for the final releases for this season?
Re: YOU and MMORPG's (OMG!)
I have, I am just struggling to care. The game got pretty boring in the past year, even with a semi-active guild. I think I have popped on to see what is up maybe 3 times since Summer of '13...ded srs wrote:

I'll give you a chance to revitalize my interest with your perspective
I was a big time GW1 player, got jaded pretty quick over the changes in 2, the PvE did nothing for me, the WvW is still essentially boils down zerg vs zerg- with that great mind game of maybezergyourmapwhileyourserverissleeping. I found the dungeons fun for awhile, but it was hard finding competent parties for most of the high end ones.
What do you think is worth coming back to GW2 for?
