Here's the cart slot, we did a neater job on it, using an IDE cable split into groups of 5 to 7 cables instead of having a whole bunch of individual wires. Getting the cart slot was a pain but it came out eventually.
For some reason, when testing up to this point, the controllers were acting weird, buttons were mixed up and others would not work at all. It went away at the next step and perhaps I'll never understand why.

The red cable there is to remove one power brick, the others are to replace the Genesis to 32x cable. These wires are sloppy because we were like 6 hours into this by then and also we soldered one wrong and the genesis refused to turn on at all.
On top of the bare 32x is the removed video out. It took a good while to remove the one in the 32x and the one in the Genesis, both had lots of solder and were a tight fit.
So far everything works and most of what is left is removing a heatsink and a couple of capacitors and hope that everything will fit back inside, pretty hard to screw up at this point. If all goes well, that will be done some time during the weekend and there will be more pictures.
Wish me luck!
