How Does Your Wife/Girlfriend Feel About Your Retro Gaming?
Re: How Does Your Wife/Girlfriend Feel About Your Retro Gami
Does anyone want to recommend a list of games that sit well with those of us who have non-gaming girlfriends? I saw a list of 50 Games for "Non-Gaming Girlfriends" at complex.. But it seriously sucks.
I've had some luck with Bubble Bobble and DK Junglebeat.

That about sums it up for me.J T wrote:I talk to her about it to help her fall asleep at night.
My wife has her hobbies (mostly reading) and I have mine. I'm cool with her festivities and she's cool with mine. Like everything else is life, there's a balance.

It all really depends on the person. If your significant other is a more cerebral person, games like Professor Layton will appeal to them. If you want to appeal to a calmer side of them, maybe hit them up with games like Animal Crossing. It is important to be encouraging, but not overwhelming. If you sit there watching them play, they could be easily self conscious so just let them handle it at their own pace and make it appeal to their likes.kidfresh wrote:Does anyone want to recommend a list of games that sit well with those of us who have non-gaming girlfriends? Mine has actually posted finds on here. She has almost panicked when I told her I was thinking about slowing down with collecting LOL. She not only supports my habit to an extreme level but damn near forces it on me.
Now if I can get her into more anime LOL, She likes some but others she can do without. Considering I have sat through Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ally Mcbeal, she is cool with whatever anime I want to watch, even if she dont like it.

My wife is not a gamer and thinks I have enough games in my collection (what does she know...) She likes it a lot more if I sell a system than if I come home with a new retro one. As far as playing video games with her it's gotta be a TV game show game or Trivial Pursuit or Scene It type game. I've been getting her more and more involved with playing 4 player "family" games with our two kids. Game we play: Super Mario 3D World, Saturn Bomberman, Mario Kart Double Dash, Warlords, Fortune Street, NintendoLand mini games, Wii U Party, etc.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
My wife is not into videogames, but she enjoys both of those series immensely. I have also read of other member's successes with them; so, you should give them a shot.

To add to the Baulder's Gate: DA suggestion, I'd recommend the console release of Diablo 3. My girl and I play this so often that, after having it for a bit over a month, we are almost done with our 3rd playthrough (which will unlock the ultimate difficulty, Inferno)
It feels like BG or Champions, but with a little more depth and strategy, so I'm actually just as eager to play it as she is. Very fun.
If something like this is too complicated for her at first, then perhaps try playing Gauntlet: Dark Legacy in co-op. Its simple and fun, and after playing this, she would probably be fine with something with a little more depth.
Some other games my gf plays the absolute tar out of:
Plants vs Zombies
Puzzle Bobble
Every Extend Extra Extreme
Hexic HD
Kingdom Hearts (The action can be a little intense, but she has loved seeing all the disney stuff so far)
(She plays Mushihimesama Futari a decent amount too, but not sure I'd recommend it

My ex-girlfriend didn't like my video game collection much.

Some of my non-gaming female friends have enjoyed Super Monkey Ball back in the day.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
