So I can post a reply to this post (read a few of these posts):

Here's my reply, written in Microsoft Notepad... I'm anxious. So many things to say:
I've gotten so sick of hearing this about the Sega CD. The Sega CD was more than just a bunch of FMV games - some of the FMV games are actually very good - Time Gal and Road Avenger are still very enjoyable games. To say that it had few, or even NO good games is absolute ignorance. Really. Do some damn research. I think anyone should purchase a Sega CD because A.) You can burn games for it, because it has no copy protection. B.) There are more than enough great games to merit a purchase regardless. About how many great games did the Nintendo 64 have? 20-some? So did the Sega CD. But you never hear anyone complaining about the Nintendo 64, do you? Here's a list of great exclusive games for the Sega CD (I really do mean great, not just above-average):
Sonic CD
Snatcher
Lunar: The Silver Star
Lunar: Eternal Blue
Popful Mail
Panic!
Robo-Aleste
Shining Force CD
Eye of the Beholder
Dungeon Explorer
Vay
Dark Wizard
Rise of the Dragon
Silpheed
Android Assault
Keio Flying Squadron
Soul Star
Sol-Feace
Time Gal
Road Avenger
It also has fantastic conversions of some Genesis, and even Super Nintendo games:
Final Fight CD
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco the Dolphin: The Tides of Time
Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin
Eternal Champions: Challenge From the Dark Side
Earthworm Jim: Special Edition
Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse
These aren't retreads, either: Ecco the Dolphin on Sega CD is the definitive Ecco experience: the ambience the CD-quality sound creates is incredible.
This post is pretty long, isn't it? Goes to show you how many great games there were on the Sega CD. I blame the ignorance of the general gaming public for Sega's demise. Hell, most gamers don't even know that the reason Sega's had such a hard time since the Dreamcast is because it ISN'T SEGA ANYMORE. Nearly all of Sega's key development houses were scrapped when the Sammy corporation took over the company, or at best, they were re-staffed (they got bought out because they ran out of money... because the most innovative and original console in existence sat neglected on store shelves). Hate the bland sequelitis the gaming industry is suffering right now? That's because the industry's most innovative company (I don't care who you think is the best; Sega WAS the most innovative, without question) is gone, due to the mass ignorance of the gaming public.
Do your research before you rant about a system you've only played a handful of games for.
Sorry to tie up the bandwith of the forum with my massive post. These things just need to be said.

Yup. The Sega CD isn't exactly a machine to base all of your gaming around, but there are lots of great gems and jewels in the library.
It must have one of the most undeserving bad reputations out there. Some people act like its as bad as the CDi or something....

Agreed. Said system would be the Sega Dreamcast, of course. Seeing as even if you don't like the Dreamcast games on it, you still have an Atari 2600, Commodore 64, Amiga, Intellivision, NES, Master System, Turbo Graf-X 16, Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Neo-Geo, two decades worth of arcade games to play, and it was oooooh so close to having a working PlayStation emulator. If it were backwards compatible with the Saturn and Sega CD, I think I'd marry it.racketboy wrote:Yup. Still though, I just hated reading those people base their entire opinion of the system around three games they played and an episode of The Angry Video Game Nerd. I mean, if you based all your opinions on consoles around him you'd think that the 2600 and NES were a complete mess. The guy's still hilarious. That doesn't excuse these people, though.

Form how people on there are responding I'm betting they've never even heard of half of those games. but you're totally right, a Sega CD is entirely worthwhile. I'm just waiting till I can afford a model 1 myself.

Oh bugger that, from 92' until only a couple years ago it was my top choice machine.racketboy wrote:Yup. The Sega CD isn't exactly a machine to base all of your gaming around, but there are lots of great gems and jewels in the library.

I still wish I new how to code for these old consoles... but I don't... ::sad face::
Re: Waiting for the Confirmation Email from Game Revolution...
For the record, I have seen people hate on the Nintendo 64. Not trying to be a dick, but I'm just saying.
That said, I've never owned a Sega CD, or any Sega console up until I got a Saturn. But now? That Saturn gets more play than my Xbox 360, that's for sure. I suppose the issue with it is that so many of the great titles were Japan only, so importing really is a rule for it.
Please throw in that later Sega consoles had some amazing stuff, especially the Saturn. A guy did come on later and defend the Dreamcast and that original poster did reflect on his word choice a bit because of it, but...come on, I was a Nintendo fan and then a Sony fan, and even I have to admit that Sega had some amazing stuff on just about EVERYTHING they put out.

Really? I've only seem to find minor gripes posted about the N64... awkward controller, general lack of 3rd Party support, etc. But never the kind of "The system was terrible" remarks that the Sega CD and Saturn get for the same little reasons, whilst the most essential games for the system are ignored.Ack wrote:For the record, I have seen people hate on the Nintendo 64. Only reason I didn't get into defending the Saturn and Dreamcast so much was because I was afraid that since these people are already adverse to the console, and my comment was already unnattractively long, I'd have a really hard time keeping their attention. I'm not sure if it's wise to make the comment much longer than it already is. You have to realize that THIS is the sort of people I'm working with:
Re: Waiting for the Confirmation Email from Game Revolution...
Actually, the "system was terrible" stuff I've seen for the N64 combined all the reasons you just gave...
And I simply couldn't watch that entire video. It was...well, boring. Horrifically boring.

Re: Waiting for the Confirmation Email from Game Revolution...
Completely understandable, bro. I actually didn't watch it all the way through, either. I just happened to see it in the related videos after watching the AVGN's Sega CD video.
Re: Waiting for the Confirmation Email from Game Revolution...
i think that everyone could agree that genesis add-ons and the n64 were stumbling points for otherwise great companies.
that said- there are always decent games on mainstream systems. I'll still play maro kart, snatcher, golden eye, and silpheed every once and a while. Just because they weren't as great as their brother consoles doesn't mean they were bad.
at least not r-zone bad.
