Do you care if a label is Greatest Hits?

It doesn't matter to me. Unless one version has more content or something similar. But I can't think of any that are "Greatest Hits" that this has happened.

If I own a run of a series, say GTA III, VICE CITY, and SAN ANDREAS, I prefer them to all have the black label. Makes it more of a consistent collection when it comes to aesthetics.

For display purposes only I tend to keep things color coded. I have no clue why SEGA went to those horrible red boxes.

I try to keep my collection all black label where possible, but sometimes i'll buy a lot and end up with some GH games and I just deal with it. If someone comes to me with pre-360/ps3 games that are GH, I usually offer them less than their black label counterparts.

With current generations I actually prefer them, as they're typically patched and in a lot of instances include on-disc DLC. With how many games came out this generation with game-ruining glitches, i'd rather not rely on their servers to provide me with a full, playable game when I want to replay it years down the road.

If your looking for playability the Greatest hits version are the way to go they are at the moment cheaper, they sometimes have revised versions of the game, and alot of the newer ones have additional content. In the long run I could really see people realizing the benefits of GH as well as the fact that there are fewer GH versions floating around then BL this could easily lead to them being more valuable in the long run especially for these newer games since thanks to the ease of patching many were shipped way before they should have been .

I end up with a lot of duplicates and for a while there I considered keeping a BL and GH for each game. However I finally decided to go with the Black Label games. I prefer original releases even if they have bugs and stuff that were fixed in later revisions I think it just gives the game more character and shows the quality of the developers work. If a game has additional content though I usually end up keeping it as well.

Indeed. I'm not sure if it was a red, white, and blue diagonal striped go 'Merica decision for GEN/SCD/SAT cases, but the blue and white are fine. The red, not so much.

I like non-Greatest Hits usually, for aesthetic reasons - not just the typically garish color scheme, but I think some (at least) swap to black and white manual contents/disc art and so on.

As others have said, if there are enhancements or it's a version of the game that's only available GH, then fine. Not going to lose sleep over it. Not everything is going to match perfectly anyway, since some systems like the Genesis and PS3 swapped their standard templates at some point.

The Dreamcast did this too. I hate it since it "requires" me to segregate my collection into two parts. (At least Genesis cases are so varied that I have no issue with mixing them all up.)

You can solve this by organizing your collection by release date.
