Here's the service manual: http://elektrotanya.com/sanyo_ds24425.pdf/download.html

I can see how to enter the service mode, but I'm a bit confused on how to actual fix the overscan. Can anyone decipher for me?
Is there a direct link to the manual? Maybe add the PDF or a screenshot of the page as an attachment?

Brightness should never be above your contrast. Brightness is your "black level". A high value will make your blacks look grey. Contrast is your "white level". It controls how bright the bright areas are. I can't see your photos, but a brightness of 100 and contrast of 30 should just make the entire screen look dull and greyish. Maybe you typed the words in reverse?

that's the only place I could find the manual to download. But you just click the link on that page and it downloads easy. The forum won't allow a PDF attachment. There's multiple pages that list options to mess w/ which is why I can't figure out which will fix the overscan. If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.

As mentioned earlier, be very careful which settings you play with due to possibly killing the TV. Different from the normal screen adjustments of a regular Menu of the TV or computer monitor.

Sony TV Hidden Menu Service Codes. Have care if using this you can brick your WEGA!

As for your missing pictures in the OP, were they deleted by Image Shack? This is another reason why I hate cloud photo sharing sights, no permanence. You could direct post them here as a reduced size attachment.
Yea, the specialty equipment would definitely make it easier. When I use the service menu the TV goes to the antenna input (just static). I can't use a certain input and see the adjustments as I am making them. I have to keep switching between the antenna input and whatever input I am using for calibration.

I am really glad I came across you in the other thread. You mentioned that even flat screen CRTs are not actually flat. And that may be what I am experiencing (the warping on the left side). Because when I readjusted some of the service menu items to get a more centered picture, the left side was not as warped, but the right side got more warped. And I actually just found some old videos of my TV before my warranty repairs and the left side was warped back then too. So it was my imagination the whole time lol.

Anyway, I put the Service Menu values back to the originals and plan on redoing them later. I'm going to hit up the AVS forums to figure out what some of these service menu items mean so I can do it right.

The only thing that concerns me about this TV now is it takes time for the TV to recover the image when you go from high contrast to low contrast. And the fact that the picture becomes slightly bigger after it is turned on for a while.

I re-uploaded the pictures. Only took a few seconds. It was not actually Imageshack's fault, it was my fault.

No I didn't get it reversed. That's how i really keep it.

I know what you mean. If I put 100 Brightness, 30 Contrast on my LCD/LEDs, I get the dull and greyish, but that is not the case for this TV. Having the default higher contract and lower brightness is not that big of an issue while gaming, but when I stream movies or TV shows it is way too dark. So the 100 Brightness, 30 Contrast was the best setting I could find for all my uses (gaming, video streaming, TV).

Is overscan when the picture is too big for the screen?

If it is, I had that issue. My huds were getting cutoff, so I just went to the service menu and just adjusted some of the geometrical settings. I had to lower the vertical and horizontal sizes.

yes exactly. I'm just not sure which settings I'm supposed to be adjusting and don't want to F it up worse.

I have a LG TV, so it is probably different then yours.

Here is what I did to fix my overscan issues.

First thing to do is to take a picture or write down all the original settings of the service menu, just in case you have to go back and put them back to the original values.

The settings that I changed to fix the overscan were: V-Position, H-Size, H-Position, H-Size.

Luckily, those settings were self-explanatory. Do you have any options like that in your Service Menu? If you do, you should be able to fix the overscan with those options alone.

Then you have more complex settings that I was messing around with like VLIN, Pin_AMP to get a more straight 4:3 ratio, but it is not necessary if you are just trying to fix the overscan.

thanks sp957, I messed around w/ it and it's a lot better. Not perfect, but at least I now get the hang of what I'm tweaking. :)

Np. Glad I could help, after all the help I get on these forums :)

You won't get it perfect btw, especially as a newbie. :) So i would just give it the quick tweak and leave it to be. I messed around with mine for hours and couldn't get it perfect. But what's most important is if you can see the whole screen now. I think these old CRTs just get distorted over time which kills the possibility of perfection.

yeah I feel like I can see the top and bottom now which is what was cut before. But now the bottom sides of the screen are a bit warped. :\

Still better than what it was as HUDs aren't chopped.
