but if there's a game I need some info on, I'll check a few things there.
Usually their site is on the first page on google search.
works good enough.
I use IGN for a reference as well as Video Game Critic and a few others.
Say why does the Header and not the Direct Reviews at IGN not show up on Google!!
For a final decision purchase, I rely more on various customer reviews at Amazon, seems to be more reliable coming from someone who actually bought the game.
I used to love IGN way back in the day, but immediately lost fate and never gave them another look when they reviewed ZombiU, stating that the game did not have a feature that let you scan the environment to see if containers had items in them.......the game does have that feature...you start with that feature. They complained about facets of the game that did not exist and rated it lower because of it.
I gave up then and there.

It's just another big gaming site. They toss good scores to games that they think will sell well and they're articles are boring too. "Top 15 Family Guy Episodes" whoopee! Although, being boring as about as bad as I think they are. There are worse gaming sites out there.
Isn't the long-running joke that you can't spell "ignorant" without IGN? Someone said "industry shill site" a few comments ago, and that about sums it up. It's the internet gaming site equivalent of watching bad programming on cable. Lots of advertising, very little content worth paying attention to.
It's an alright source for mainstream gaming news, but you'll get information more relevant to your tastes by subscribing to a genre specialty site or haunting a forum. I end up frequenting them when a new piece of hardware is announced - they are typically the first to have details. Something more in-depth will surface on polygon pretty soon though, so almost all of my visits to ign are fuel by impatience.
Their reviews are far, far ahead of the average "art game" site and slightly worse than the average genre interest site. That is to say, they are all horrible.

Haven't really spent much time on there site in a year or two. Seemed to be a lot of mediocre fluff articles and on a regular basis the same article would be released multiple times with a different title and a slight edit/update. Reviews were also pretty biased at times and thanks to the subpar video player you would usually have to refresh the page 3-4 times before it would play properly each time the 1 minute ad would play just fine though .
Some of the guys around there just seemed to be loud and obnoxious as well.
I use them when determining whether to buy a game or not. Normally I already know I want this game or that game and use the "conclusion" part of the review to decide which of the two games I should buy. I rely on word of mouth reviews (like from this site) to judge the quality of a game.

I got back into their site about a year ago when I finally got a smartphone. So yeah, it's just random stuff I read on breaks and such. When I'm home thesedays I don't even really care to keep up with much anymore honestly, I just hear it from you guys or others eventually.
I liked IGN back in the day during the Babes era. haha
