Dreamcast input test?

Post by aaron »

Is there an input test homebrew program for the dreamcast? I have a bunch of controllers I'd like to test out and it'd be really nice to just plug them in and see if they work without having to test each button within gameplay of some game.

yes there is, sir.

So weird that you ask this today as I stumbled upon the link I had saved for myself a few hours ago back when I researching the logistics of building a Dreamcab.

On a barely related note, If one is lucky enough to own Space Megaforce for SNES, it has a controller test built in.

There's also legit, official SNES test carts...

There's NES equivalents, too. Assuming the actual carts are rare and/or expensive, at least we have the ROMs to use on flash carts or emulators (with USB controller adapters).

Which makes me realize...

If you have a USB adapter, you can test a controller on a computer. On Windows 7, just go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers. You're USB adapter should show up there. Right-click the icon for it and click on "game controller settings." In the window that pops up, click on "properties," and another window will pop up. Click on the "test" tab, and you'll get this...

Using the joystick or D-pad will cause the cursor in the X/Y axis box to move, and hitting a button will light one of the red circles.

Marvel VS Capcom 1 has a redefine keys screen which should work as well.
You will see which button you press.
