IGN, anyone?
IGN, anyone?
What's your opinion of IGN and it's reviews / ratings? Do you love it, or hate it? Me personally, think they slap a pretty score on games that achieve commercial success. But that's just my opinion. What do you think?

I dont haunt that place, like I do here LOL
but if there's a game I need some info on, I'll check a few things there.
Usually their site is on the first page on google search.
works good enough.

Haha, thanks for the response. I find they can help me out sometimes, though. For example, I'm pretty sure I found Conker's BFD through IGN.flojocabron wrote:I dont haunt that place, like I do here

I think my first webmail address was @ignmail.com. I have no idea why.

Well, that's very interesting. I never knew the site had its own webmail address!TSTR wrote:I think my first webmail address was @ignmail.com. I have no idea why.

I think they kind of suck as a gaming site. In fact, you can go back over the past couple years and see how they have gradually gone down more and more in quality as a gaming site, particularly some of their ridiculous reviews.
That said though, I find myself actually liking IGN as a TV site. They tend to cover a lot of shows I'm into(including some more overlooked ones), and it's surprising how often their opinions tend to be in the same ballpark as my own.

Re: IGN, anyone?
I haven't followed the site in years mainly because the ads get in my way and the only stuff I really want to follow on breaking news with games I go to something like Joystiq or GoNintendo (since I'm a bigger fan of Nintendo games). IGN, Gamespot and other sites like that I've just grown out of them I guess since most of the stuff is official press release stuff that I would find out anyway. As for their other sections I don't really need it since I don't watch TV, I do not need to know details about upcoming movies and the rest of entertainment I'm an anime fan and use Anime News Network for it.
Plus the reviews they have are a joke, I remember one review they did for Harvest Moon or Rune Factory (forgot which one but it was on the DS) where they kept comparing it to other games that had nothing to do with that type of game. Then again, I do not think the term "game journalist" exists to begin with some I'm a bit bias.

I think they get too much shit. Their reviews and game coverage is obviously tainted but most of the staff are pretty knowledgeable and are fun to listen to. I regularly watch their 'Game Scoop' and listen to Greg Millers 'Beyond' podcast's.

Same here. I think they did a better job covering the N64 than any other website at the time. They were pretty good in the Gamecube days as well, but starting last gen they went downhill fast. I haven't browsed IGN for about 5 years now.apollo wrote:Haha, thanks for the response. I find they can help me out sometimes, though.
