1. Back to the Future: The Game - PC
2. Syndicate - PC
3. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - PC
4. Resident Evil: Revelations - 3DS
5. The Walking Dead - PC
6. The Walking Dead: 400 Days - PC
7. Cyber-Lip - Neo Geo (Via Neo Geo X)

Total for 2014: 7

The Walking Dead: 400 Days
Depending on how well the characters are integrated into the second season will really determine my view of 400 days.

As a standalone it was decent to see what it was like for other survivors, a few from the main story, though they are bit parts, before and after the events of the first game.

Looking forward to Season 2.

Cyber-Lip - Neo Geo (Via Neo Geo X)
I have wanted to play Cyber-Lip for awhile, I love Metal Slug and knew it was SNK's launch title shooter for the system.

While it is a bit stiff and aged by today's standard I still had quite a bit of fun with it, the controls were decent other than a few small things.

No diagonal shooting, when you shoot up, you have to pretty much stop moving and when you change weapons it does not seem that responsive unless you stop moving, they all add up to making the game feel quite stiff.

I like how they tried their luck at a branching path, I finished it twice and the 'branches' are kind of a redundant, but still good on them.

Boss fights were decent and with the large amount of guns, can be easy if you save them all for the boss fights.

Also, quite differently from other games on AES hardware (or emulated in my case) there are unlimited lives, most games, like Metal Slug, will allow you to up your credits by a few above the default, but not actually have unlimited credits, which I prefer.

1. Hotline Miami (PS3)
2. Boulder Dash XL 3D (3DS)
3. Mirror's Edge (PS3)
4. Orcs & Elves (DS)
5. 3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3)
6. Justice League Heroes: The Flash (GBA)

JLH: The Flash (GBA) is a nice little GBA "hidden gem" beat 'em up that plays a bit like a good single-player version of Data East's Captain America & The Avengers (ARC). It was developed by WayForward; so, the sprite work is excellent. Moreover, the game's boss battles are a lot of fun, and they pit the flash against a good variety of A- and B-list DC supervillains:
Gorilla Grodd
Killer Frost
Circe (the most difficult boss battle)
Zoom (the most unique boss battle)
Braniac (the most fun boss battle)
The game ties into Snowblind Studios' Justice League Heroes (which from what I have read and what little I have played is just a second-rate Marvel: Ultimate Alliance); so the story does not come to a satisfying conclusion. Moreover - and with the exception of one boss battle - the game is very easy, and a half-way dedicated player could probably get through it in a single sitting. Still, it has some unique features for a beat 'em up. Specifically, the game allows the player to play the game in "slow motion" for a limited period of time (i.e., all of the enemies and background actions occur at a fraction of regular speed while the Flash moves normally), granting the Flash a tremendous advantage over his opponents. Moreover, by pressing "A" and a directional button, the Flash will dash to and attack a nearby enemy. This move allows you to quickly land a hit or combo on one of the Flash's opponents, and it allows the Flash to quickly dash away from an attack. (This move is crucial for the final boss, and the game is considerably easier if you play it as the Flash - dashing between and attacking multiple enemies at once - rather than focusing on one enemy at a time.) Finally, one of the boss battles and a very fun post-game bonus feature require the Flash to race against a super-powered opponent. These segments are very fun, and they set the game apart most beat 'em ups.

I really enjoyed this game (as did my daughter, who is "way into superheroes right now.") I recommend it to anyone that is a fan of WayForward's work and anyone who is seeking a fun and unique portable beat 'em up.

Yep

The first five or so I just had stuff I felt like playing, after that I decided on a theme to help narrow things down - one that, outside of Jumping Flash, I'd already been following.

This month I'm planning to play/replay Metal Gear games though.

1. Mortal Kombat II - 32X
2. Cosmic Carnage - 32X
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade - XBLA
4. X-men Arcade - XBLA
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist - Genesis
6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time - SNES
7. Metroid: Other M - Wii
8. Donkey Kong Country Returns - Wii
9. Metroid Fusion - GBA

I was in the mood to replay Fusion after I beat Other M, but I put it out of my mind in favor of other games. But then Flake beat it the other day and reminded me, so its kinda been preying on me.

Figured I had to play it and get it out of my system, so I knocked it out today.

It remains my favorite Metroid. I love the environments of the space station, I love the boss fights, I love Samus' brief monologues, I love how delightfully creepy it is, and I still get a thrill from outrunning the SA-X.

Such an awesome game in every way.

Beat Super Mario 3D Land for 3DS last night. The most I can say about it is that it was fun. And I mean that in the best possible way. It felt like the same old Mario, but in 3D. And just like old Mario, it was fun and put a smile on my face.

I just beat the main worlds. I still have the special worlds to beat (other than the first one which I immediately played through). And now I get to play as Luigi!

I was numbed I missed out on it at my local store but my girlfriend went out of her way today, like 50km and got it for me without me asking or anything. 5 and a half years together still amazes me with the cool stuff she does.

Was about 22.50usd for the mega pack, ebgames who are the exclusive stocker of the ngx decides to slash the prices, got the console and the megapack for what I imagine comes to about 100usd.

My girlfriend, who is utterly awesome, picked it up for me today, can't wait to update the console and get into some games.

The special worlds are where its at in that game. (Seriusly, they are way better than the first half, which - IMO - is entirely too easy.) Enjoy!
