Where did you all get your Princess crowns? I'm about to pick up Rauny and I'm still at zero Crowns despite having several ladies that could make a nice Princess if I only got a crown (maybe Aisha first?).
I have 2 Rings and 4 Staffs total though (at least one Staff was given on a trade quest or similar). I'm storing a Ring and a Staff for later.
I have a couple of Ninjas that are almost lev 15 with Ali of 60 to 50 as well :/ If I didn't have a truck load of Samurais in training to become Paladins I would convert them, as it is I only have a single Ninja Master so I'm thinking of trolling some random level 1s somewhere to lower the Ninja rep.

There is a way to get crowns in the story. All others are randoms.
Beware if you kill randoms it hurts your rep.

There are two guaranteed Crowns, but one is on the very last map (which is a little late for it to matter).

Finished Diaspola tonight and Norn joined up. Picked up the staff from the Sentoul Demon and I will save it for Saradin. Recruited a couple neutral angels to fill in Norns and Aishas groups.
I have about 5 low alignment units and 8-9 high aligned. My rep is near maxed and things are falling into place. I still have a few characters that need to bump their alignments before promotion but not too bad.

I have made it through Antalia and now have Yushis on my side. She's great, but I'll need to build her up a bit to make her a Seraphim. But Antalia is great! I'm using the undead there to ensure that some of my waning units are being turned into Paladins and Muses. Both Lans and Ashe are now Paladins, and the other units in their squads are similarly bolstered. And upon finding a staff in Antalia, I've been able to turn Saradin into a Lich(I already had a spare ring for him). So now my army consists of 2 dragoons, 2 generals, 2 liches, 2 princesses, 2 wyverns, 2 cockatrice, numerous paladins, samurai masters, doll masters, ninja masters, shaman, and muses, a Seraphim and multiple Cherubim, along with my 1 Lord and my 1 Eagleman. I have 5 high- and low-flight squads along with multiple liberator squads.
I do really wish Seraphim had the same speed as Devils though. There don't seem to be many good high- or low-flight characters that can affect the mobility of a full squad.

You guys are maintaining more than 9 units? I usually field 4 or 5. The problem I am getting though is that the guys are getting seriously leveled up and at risk of Charisma loss... But I can handle all the enemy units. I have a healer (now a Shaman) in each unit and that mostly keeps my units on the battlefield instead of rotating back to a nearby town to heal up.
Also, you like the Cockatrices? I figured I would keep the rear hit all attack of the Gryphon (Petrify seems to miss a lot when the enemy uses Cockatrices).
I also started fielding low sky mostly, as the Wyrms and Gryphons take up two slots.

Some of it comes down to personal taste. While it's more expensive, I like fielding more squads because it means I can back up ones that are seeing heavy combat or are suddenly confronted with a unit full of undead or of a different alignment. For instance, I don't want my knights fighting angels, because that will likely sink their alignments and make it harder to become paladins. But ninjas I'm perfectly fine with pitting against angels, so I slide an evil squad full of them in and let my knights focus on more evil targets. Also, having more units means I can send more units in different directions to free up towns, allowing me to earn income faster, locate shops, and beat maps before I start to suffer reputation drops from prolonged battles.
The cockatrice is an odd unit whose value changes depending upon which version of the game you are playing. They're useful in the SNES version because they tend to attack first, and effective manipulation of squad targets enables me to try and take down whichever unit threatens me the most(such as witches, casters, healers, tiamats, etc.). In the PS1 port, I've read their usefulness is drastically diminished because for some reason their petrify attack has been reduced to a 5% success rate at all times. This simply isn't the case on the Super Nintendo, as I'd say it's more like an 80%-90% success rate, at least for me. Maybe I've just been very lucky, but my cockatrice have been very successful in a support role.
Yes, wyrms and gryphons take two slots, but that doesn't mean they're not worth using. First, Wyverns are extremely hardy units with lots of health and decent power. They don't get a large number of attacks, but they can take a lot of punishment. In my high flight squads, I keep them in the front row to protect weaker targets like wizards and shamans. And though I can't tell too much of a difference, I'm told that pairing Wyverns and Dragoons causes the Wyvern to do additional damage.
More importantly though, High Sky is better than Low Sky. Most of the time, these two groups move easily over terrain, but Low Sky slows to a crawl when crossing mountains and cliffs, while High Sky remains undeterred. Also, few of the Low Sky units can influence the terrain type of a full squad, and of those, the Devil is really the most useful for his massive evil attack.

Re: Together RPG - SRPG - Ogre Battle MotBQ - 1/11/14 -> 3/1
I ran 10 units (the deploy max) and I ditched the healers once I was around level 15; at this point I could get Muses and I had enough Goth that I could spam healing items instead of using in battle healing. This also meant I won nearly every combat (as healing doesn't help in the victory calculation) and I only needed to use a healing Tarot once or twice on bosses.

I think at this point I only have a couple. The others were turned into Princesses.

I have 3 of these right now, I think I'm going to regret it in 16 years.Ack wrote:I think at this point I only have a couple. The others were turned into Princesses.
