It's not getting dropped anytime soon. There's just no feasible way they can have a successor out for a while. 2016 would be the absolute earliest for that to happen. Now is it worth buying? That's what you have to ask yourself really. I think it's worthwhile assuming you like the exclusive games that are/will be available on the system and feel there's enough to warrant a purchase. There's been plenty of deals lately and they'll certainly continue because of the console's lukewarm reception.

Arkham origins DLC canceled for the Wii U, I believe Nintendo gave back $20 for a season pass or something like that for those who paid upfront

I never knew it existed. I can't believe people actually pay up front for an indeterminate amount of DLC to be released at an indefinite time in the future.

the idea is that it is cheaper to buy a pass than buying content when it comes out piece by piece. it isn't that bizarre, really.
