Re: Redux: Dark Matters - a New Game for Sega Dreamcast & Mo
I'm still really baffled as to why Redux exists now if it really is a remake. I mean, Dux came out what? 2010? Then we get 1.5 in 2013. Why on earth would we want a remake of it a year later? If that's really the case then that bums me out probably worse than the bugs.

Dude what? Redux is a goddamn remake of a remake? I really hope this is just some weird coincidence, or even just reused assets, that'd be crap if it's just a remake.
I guess I'll find out when it finally comes in, who knows when that will be!

Re: Redux: Dark Matters - a New Game for Sega Dreamcast & Mo
I was going to post the comparison shot here as well, but was so busy last night...good thing somebody took the initiative to link it here.
I played both games to third stage boss and they sure seem to be carbon copies of each other. Same traps, enemies, everything. The only difference I could tell after playing the games ~30 minutes each is that ReDux seems to have an additional weapon system, where you extend this web around the ship and lasers shoot at targeted enemies. Very Soukyugurentai. And ReDux does have another "Veteran" ship to use which I didn't try out.
You can see from the screenshots that ReDux does have more detail to its graphics, but thanks to the blur it's incredibly hard to appreciate any of it. Or to see what's happening at all.

Even after all the bullshit with the kickstarter, I am floored that they'd have the gall to just release the same game in a new skin. What assholes.

I should probably cancel my pre-order of Ghost Blade 33 1/3, due Fall 2015, sounds like the only change is the caravan mode is 5:05.

what I think is crap is that it was never advertised as a remake. The kickstarter and webpage both just say something like "new shooting game by the creators of Dux." Why would anyone think that's a remake?
Re: Redux: Dark Matters - a New Game for Sega Dreamcast & Mo
I definitely feel swindled. It sure seemed to me from the Kickstarter campaign that it was going to be a sequel to Dux. I never would have chipped in for the kickstarter for two different remakes of the same game that hardly anyone liked in the first place. I'm also floored that it took two years of development and all that money for this.noiseredux wrote:what I think is crap is that it was never advertised as a remake. Seems there were some clues to this being a remake for a while, though:

And a review posted in the past couple days that mentions there not being an added 7th stage:Published on Dec 24, 2012
A playthrough of the Redux: Dark Matters demo. This game is a remake of Dux and Dux 1.5 for Dreamcast.

Perhaps that's just an oversight, and there was an additional stage added, but that first beta playthrough clearly states that it would be in the final game— I'm just shocked by the apparent level of failure in this development. Hucast is dead to me. Why waste our time and money trying to make an average into something better by re-releasing it twice at the same fucking time! No one cares!
—Deep breaths.
I feel like I understand why there was so little communication, now.

Re: Redux: Dark Matters - a New Game for Sega Dreamcast & Mo
Gotta admit that I really only look to Japanese devs for quality DC shmups. These indie games coming later have done nothing for me, and situations like this make me even more glad to not support them.
