I certainly will check out 6 on that recommendation. I'd been led to believe it was basically par for the course after 4 and 5.
I can also partly understand the disappointment with Wily Wars. I was never that fond of NES Mega Man in dabbling with the games through the years, but Wily Wars made me really appreciate, and enjoy the first three games in the series.
What do you think of Megaman Wily Wars?

Nice breakdown Pierrot! I think it's a pretty good explanation.
I decided to watch someone play Megaman 2 through it and noticed only a couple spots that suffer from slowdown:
The first one is on Aqua Man stage, when you fight those big fishes that shoot other fishes from their mouth. There's no reason for the Mega Drive to have slowdown here but since the NES version has slowdown AND flicker in this part, I think it's a straight upgrade.
The second one is right on the final boss. If you shoot, there's slowdown. Pretty damn weird if you ask me since there's barely anything on the screen but it's an easy boss anyways and I would take it over the constant flicker of the NES version everytime you are hit.
So on a graphical level it doesn't seem bad at all. I wonder how that extra delay Pierrot mentions while jumping feels so I'll try to emulate the game first and decide that on my own.
Do you guys know if there are also reproduction boxes and manuals? Or is that too much to ask?

The slowdown and input delay wrecked it for me. I also didn't like most of the new music. As much as I like the graphic style, the cons outweighed the pros for me.

The problem is the slowdown in some places, particularly when there's loads of projectiles, is even worse than the NES. A good fight to compare is Ice Man in the first game. That might be a plus for some people though as the slowdown makes beating him a lot easier.General_Norris wrote:Nice breakdown Pierrot! I think it's a pretty good explanation.

The delay is also kind of awkward if you've spent a lot of time with the originals. It just feels wrong. If you haven't though then the difference in control might not be an issue.
Most people just sell the cartridges with repros but some go the extra mile.
You could probably get a high-quality print out of the manual from someone though. I know there were people on Sega-16 that did box art reproduction and probably people here that do too. You can just rob a clamshell from a cheap sports game or something. That's the easiest and cheapest way to get an "official" box.
Otherwise people on eBay are always selling universal game cases with reproduction art, especially for rarer games. They kind of overcharge though.

I could never really get into the Megadrive port. It might have something to do with the save system not being recognized by the emulator(s) I was using and/or not pressing the right buttons on the save menu.
But I still prefer the original look and feel of the NES games. I don't think that I'm missing much.
I did enjoy Mega Man Powered Up on PSP though. I wish I could find the alternate reality where Powered Up 2 (and 3) was realized.

That makes too much sense
.
Yeah, it's mostly wanting to unlock Wily's tower. If I understand correctly, a save file is needed.
I haven't messed with gg codes on emulators, so I may look into it.

Re: What do you think of Megaman Wily Wars?
Hey I was curious, and no this isn't a ROM beg but it's related to a hacked ROM of this. I saw that in response to the AT Games handheld that doesn't allow saving (ugh) and with them oddly packing the 2013 version of it with MMWW and SSF2 on the box art someone hacked the game.
Has anyone ever tried this hack out? It allows the Wily Tower to be open from the beginning so it doesn't have to be unlocked busting open all 3 MM titles to get it. Have you seen or tried it and if so how handy is it for you as I've never seen Wily Tower before.
I got their 2015 version of their system that came out days ago which again has miniscule upgrades but still most of the same sound issues that features MK1-3 on the selection. I was thinking of tracking down the patched game and giving it a go but didn't want to waste the time trying to find it if it's not worth my time.
