Sounds like their experience with bringing Ikaruga to steam really opened their eyes to steam.

Pretty much a match made in heaven when you think on it. Treasure would just have to make sure they promote themselves well to avoid getting lost in the glut of retro looking titles on steam.

Groovy, can't wait to see what Treasure does with modern PC horsepower.

The LHC in Geneva might not have been able to create a black hole but Treasure making an original game with the capabilities of a modern PC might be too much for the universe to take. We could be in grave danger.

Are any of the folks who used to make good Treasure games still there? I feel like they haven't done an original sidescroller in a decade or more.

They haven't officially announced that it's a side scroller yet it's just one of the genres they're thinking of.

I have my fingers crossed for a side scroller though, I mean just look at my namesake.

A lot of people come and go through Treasure. Maegawa is still founder and CEO though and is usually the producer on most of their games. I don't know who else is on their current payroll.
