Do you see anything that favours buying an Xbox One over a PS4 , or would you say its mostly similar? Anything based on future releases? Do you use the Kinect?dsheinem wrote:I was watching the 'Cuse. I'd be up for some KI perhaps in the next day or two. I noticed that there are some kind of "title" trophies that must be tied to winning some kind of title...is this an award for surviving a certain length of time in the endless/survival mode?Stark wrote:
KI doesn't have a arcade mode I think. I hopped on to see if you wanted to play, but looked like you were watching TV.
I'll keep an eye out for a ~$20 Ryse.

Re: Xbox One
I'd say the PS4 is the better choice as it is thus far outpacing the One in all graphical measures on multiplatform stuff. Beyond that, it comes down to which company's unique IPs you prefer. There aren't many games that interest me that use Kinect, but it is at least interesting to play with for watching TV, etc.

An HD update of a 6th gen game usually runs at 60fps, now even the PS4 barely reaches 60fps but to be fair there are added hardware features so it's more taxing.

Re: Xbox One
Don't most console games from the previous gen run at 30fps? To me this seems like a reason to choose one or the other if you have both systems, but if you only have one system, not a big deal.
It's true, but I think it's interesting that the best looking and most technically impressive next gen title I've seen so far is Ryse.dsheinem wrote:I'd say the PS4 is the better choice as it is thus far outpacing the One in all graphical measures on multiplatform stuff.

Re: Xbox One
How does it compare visually to Killzone Shadowfall? How much of what you see in Ryse s able to be directly manipulated/interacted with (as opposed to directing a scripted scene)?Stark wrote:Don't most console games from the previous gen run at 30fps? Re: Xbox One
I think the models and environments look better in Ryse, to be fair I've only seen SF twice in person (I'm not getting a PS4 until Feb/March). Much like what is impressive to me about Uncharted, the facial animation and setpieces are what is awesome about Ryse, which is scripted. There is a lot of manipulation/interaction by killing dudes in various locations, be it kicking them off balaconies, drowning them in a nearby pool, or kicking them through a bon fire and lighting them ablaze. Hmm ... want to go play Ryse now.dsheinem wrote:How does it compare visually to Killzone Shadowfall? Re: Xbox One
I made my own rule with graphics . If you look at it and can't tell right away which one is better, then it doesn't matter. I saw this 30fps vs 60fps and I just can't tell what is the big difference, but I know that it matters when shooting fast bullets. Yes I too like the effect where you seem to be shooting a 100 bullets per second but mostly it doesn't matter in most games that doesn't have a ton of action going on at one time like RPGs, puzzles, and surviving horror.
As for next gen. not looking next gen. , I think this forum taught me that the good games need sometime until they come out because developers still do not know how to squeeze the most out of the systems yet. I think Early PS3 titles looked very similar to late PS2 titles. Plus I think this generation will be the most "multiplatform" generation ever, so most games will find a middle ground where games will look similar in all devices despite the fact that one console/pc can output better looking games. Remember this happened when 360 games looked slightly better than PS3, even though the PS3 is more capable.

Re: Xbox One
With 8th gen architectures being quite similar to PCs, it's going to take a lot of convincing to demonstrate the potential of how futureproof these consoles are.

Re: Xbox One
How so? Consoles have always been underpowered compared to PCs. If you're inclined to buy the PC version of a game, what difference does it make if the consoles are running some custom multi-chip development nightmare or off the shelf x86 hardware?Pulsar_t wrote:With 8th gen architectures being quite similar to PCs, it's going to take a lot of convincing to demonstrate the potential of how futureproof these consoles are.
Re: Xbox One
They won't be able to "squeeze out" more of the hardware since the SDK's won't improve as dramatically as previous generations. Instead the development itself has to change to accommodate new expectations
