Dreamcast disc drive dying?

Post by fredthezombie »

Hi, I've been having issues with my dreamcast, it seems very spotty as to if it wants to read a disc or not at times. I'm not getting any disc read errors, for example it will get to a loading screen and you will hear the drive stop making noise and it won't go any further, but sometimes it works fine. Any thoughts? I attempted to tweak the potentiometer but felt like I was trying to force the screw so I gave up.

imo tweaking the pot is the last step if nothing works then try it , make sure when you are tweaking the pot you are turning the pot each time the thickness of a hair and test.

also turning it a certain way will make the laser read at a stronger level and the other way will weaken it.

google for a tutorial or guide on which way strengthens and weakens

before tweaking the pot i would have recommended greasing the rails and any gears and cleaning the laser with Isopropyl Alcohol

I was going to say, "go get another dreamcast"

but it looks like you're in Iceland.

Dont know how many Dreamcasts made it to your country.

I guess you would have to import it.

They are somewhat plentiful in the US.

dont know much about the euro dreamcast though.

Go find a second one anyways as a backup.

Is there any way you can take a pic of your system with the top case removed?

I would very much like to see the innards before making any type of suggestions.

Thanks in advance.
