I just beat Mega Man X2, so I can scratch a second game off my list!
Overall, I thought X1 was much better than X2. Like I said, I suck at MM games, but X2 just felt way too easy. Even for me. Most of the bosses in X2, I beat with the X buster alone. In fact, I beat a good 3 or 4 this way, with only 3 or so heart tank upgrades and only 1 or 2 sub tanks.
During all the final stages, I basically just filled up my sub tanks before each stage and then was able to play the bosses with zero effort. Seriously, most of the bosses I didn't even have to try. I would not bother to avoid taking hits and was still able to beat them easily. And yeah, Sigma's second form really was a joke of a final boss.
Which leads me to another thought: The Cx4 enhancement chip and the use of it. As far as I can tell, the only thing this chip is used for is wireframes. And there's a severe lack of them in the game. As far as I can tell, the only places in the game that uses them is the title screen and Sigma's second form. Other than that, I didn't notice use of the Cx4 anywhere else in the game. Which is kind of a let down. The title screen could easily lose the wireframe X, and Sigma's second form could just as well of been an ordinary sprite, then we wouldn't have even needed the Cx4. The wireframe Sigma head thing was pretty cool, though. You don't see wireframes in SNES games, so it was kinda neat. It was like Star Fox graphics in a Mega Man game.
Anyways, overall, I thought X1 was the better game of the two. It had much better level design IMO, better bosses, and wasn't too easy.
I'm kinda curious to play X3 now and see if they used the Cx4 any more than they did in X2, but I don't know if I feel like playing through another MM game right now. I'm not sure what SNES game I'll play next. I'm thinking of jumping on an RPG, but well see.

If I recall correctly, there is also a wire-frame sword that you fight as a mini-boss at one point. Overall, however, I agree that the game should have used the chip more.Ziggy587 wrote:Which leads me to another thought: The Cx4 enhancement chip and the use of it. I also think that the MMX series went down hill on the SNES after the first game. It picked back up with MMX4, but then it really went down hill after that...

lol I think I said that.Ack wrote: In the meantime, I've acquired Rival Turf! and Brain Lord, which will likely be my next RPG after I finish my crawl through Ogre Battle. Does anyone have any experience with Brain Lord? I'm not colorblind, so I won't have any issues there(I've heard it's not cb-friendly).
But I ended up finishing it after adjusting the colors on my CRT. It's a great game, and not too long. It was developed by Produce who also made..... The 7th Saga!
Oh and I'm now dealing with the first dead SNES battery in my collection. Unfortunately, it's Ogre Battle.
Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Yeah, I think it was you. I expect I'll probably sit down and polish Brain Lord off in a week or so, but it will be nice to have a relatively brisk RPG after how long Ogre Battle is taking. I've heard it's very difficult, puzzle-wise.BoneSnapDeez wrote:lol I think I said that.Ack wrote: In the meantime, I've acquired Rival Turf! and Brain Lord, which will likely be my next RPG after I finish my crawl through Ogre Battle. That sucks about the dead battery. I'm sure there are a few in my collection with RPGs I haven't played in a while.

Word. I thought of you as soon as I realized I had a dead batt. Someday when I have some free time (lol) I'd like to go through my collection and check all the batteries. I know for a fact that NES Zelda is a little iffy as well.....Hobie-wan wrote:If you need assistance, shout.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Oh and I'm now dealing with the first dead SNES battery in my collection. Anyway, as soon as I realized the Ogre Battle battery was dead I hopped on eBay and bought the PlayStation version.

Is there a resource (other than Wikipedia) out there that details the differences between a game ported to SNES and Megadrive/Genesis? In terms of content, not just graphics, artwork and sound. Examples: Shadowrun, Out of This World, the Earthworm Jim games

you know its really easy to solder in new batteries, you can get a soldering iron at radio shack for like $10 and you can buy like 40 of the tabbed batteries for $26. http://www.ebay.com/itm/X40-NES-Super-N ... 27d88aab7bBoneSnapDeez wrote:Word. I bought like 100 of them and in one weekend I sat and soldered in new batteries in my entire collection (of games that mattered, not putting new batteries in all the madden games..)
feels good knowing that my games will all save for at least another 15 years.
hehe Bone didn't I sell you a phantasy star 4 cart I replaced the battery on ?
