This is damn perfect way of putting it. Very well said! RE4 on the GCN lacks all the addtional features added on the PS2 conversion, but it doesn't take away so much from the original in the grand scheme of things. RE4 was built to take advantage of GCN hardware in many respects. The games was designed for the system. It looked great visually on system and performs smoothly (not to mention, controls perfectly on a cube controller!) RE4 on PS2 looks bland and visually degraded with performance that can't even match that of its competitor. Even with all the extras, just by playing the PS2 for few minutes convinced me that the extra bells and whistles just doesn't justify its purchase if can't match the quality of its GCN counterpart. And I'm glad I never got it considering the Wii edition took the quality of its predecessor hardware and blends it with all extras thrown and then some. This is EXACTLY how I felt with the entirety of Code Veronica. I just couldn't bring myself to play the updated versions if it couldn't match the visual quality of the original on these other consoles it was ported to. So for years I denied myself of all those extras until I found out that a complete version was also available exclusively in Japan. Code Veronica indeed looks like a Dreamcast production through and through. This becomes even more apparent when played in Hi Res. It took advantage of what that particular piece of hardware could offer towards the creation of the game. The original CV looked like a HUGE significant leap in visuals compared to its predecessors at the time.

Okay, so it's just a few extra added scenes, and it's just a scant few graphical upgrades here and there in the X version, and it's on one disc...but those are still improvements, even it's just small improvements (and while I haven't personally tested it to see, I'd imagine the DVD drive has faster loading times than the GD-Rom drive). It's still a better version than the Dreamcast version. This is nothing more than personal preference with people saying the Dreamcast version is better.

I've only played the DC version, so I can't really comment fully, but I guess some people would rather play the game through the VGA adapter in 640x480. I imagine that makes the game look a lot better than the PS2 or Gamecube versions, even if the latter ports do have slight visual improvements (Do they, by the way?).

So they say. But they also say the PS2 upscales graphics on PS1 games, and I can't tell the minor differences. I'm sure techies can, though.

"Mild graphical changes," does not equal, "graphical upgrades."

Define, "better," because while the PS2 and GC versions of X have some relatively minor additions over the original DC CV (and nothing on Kanzenban) they take a hit in overall presentation.

Many games that were ported from the Dreamcast to other 6th gen consoles have some (mostly irrelevant) additions in terms of content, but don't perform, sound, or look quite as good as the original releases. In those instances, I'd prefer to play the game that plays the best, over a game that has ten minutes more of content.

Really, the graphics on the PS2 and GC version looks that much worse that you'd forfeit additional content? You make that big of deal over tiny technical details, yet easily brush aside the additional content; and it's not just a personal preference? (BTW, I already said it sounds like the Japanese version you mentioned is on par after you explained it) And those 10 minutes isn't like some useless 10 minutes of poses, talking heads, or text or something. The cutscenes really do add to the story.

No. I'd play Kanzenban on the Dreamcast, because that's what I have.

Oh! I Completely forgot about that extra cinematic. Sorry, my bad. That scene in particular is def a highlight in the CV X update. I remember seeing that cutscene for the first time just last year after playing Kazenban on Dreamcast. I was rather surprised of not only seeing Claire meeting Wesker for the first time in the series, but also how he goes mad pimp'n on her. And I mean MAD PIMP
Indeed.

Out of curiosity, is the Dreamcast Kanzenban release in English, or is all the text in Japanese? I'm guessing not, though sometimes you luck out.

I didn't even realize they'd put out a "complete" version of CV on the Dreamcast, so it'd be interesting to check out... but not if I can't read a word of it.

English Dialogue, Japanese subtitles. As a result, the only times you would perhaps have an issues with Japanese text (assuming you dont read Japanese) is during some of the game's puzzle. If you've played Code veronica as much as I have to the point that you remember all of the puzzles by heart, then that wont be a problem ;)
