the first Gravediggaz album is a masterpiece.
I can't listen to it without laughing.

In highschool, it was my ish, but the theatrics are so over the top I can't take it seriously. For not even a second.

Some great beats, but the lyrics are silly.

You have a song about tripping on acid where they mention blowjobs from crackheads (froma crack head?), an entire song dedicated to a list of ways to kill yourself, a track that starts out with "They thirsty? I whip 'em up 2 cups of blood", they include a song with the hook being a Jim Croce song, and you also get a track that is set in a courtroom with horrible voice actors.

I'm not saying it's bad, I'm saying it's silly.

of course it's silly! It's hip hop's Tales From The Crypt. It revels in its tongue-in-cheekiness. Remember who spearheaded it - Prince Paul. The dude who famously announced on 3 Feet High that his favorite movie was Blood Sucking Freaks.

Wait, wait wait. THAT Prince Paul?

I had no clue. I always thought it was a RZA side project. Well slap me silly and call me Nancy.

yup, THAT Prince Paul. The first record was his baby. He produced it all and put the group together. The second album I think Rza produced most. After that he left. By the fourth album Gravediggaz was just one guy.

Well you certainly took me to school on that one.

I had no idea. I always associated the guy with De La Soul and 3rd Base. Since high school I thought Diggaz was just RZA and a second rate Wu that he wanted to start. Crazy stuff, so thanks for the 411.

yeah Prince Paul is a genius, man.

And as far as "second rate Wu," Paul grabbed Frukwon from Stetsasonic man! It was really just this hip hop supergroup that he assembled with the concept of a horror-themed record.

But glad to have filled you in. Maybe you can listen to it w/ new ears now? 8)

Method Man just might be my favorite Wu member to listen to at this point.
