3ds won't charge up/turn on after getting some handgel in

Post by Toktogul »

I'll try to be as clear as possible.
the issue is when I plug in my 3ds, the orange light turns on for 5 seconds, then fades to black. it won't charge the 3ds, i can't turn it on. I didn't know why, so i opened it up

It smells and feel like my handgel, and when i rub the liquid with q tips, its green (like the gel i have). So i'm guessing that for some reason my gel leaked from the bottle into my 3ds. how much, i couldn't say. i removed the gel from the battery back and that region, i cracked it open to the mother board, there doesnt seem to be gel there, but there is some on the gamepack receiver.

I changed the battery, but it still won't turn on. I guess the only option now is to buy a brand new one :( I simply want to know if there is anything that could save my 3ds or is it impossible?

thank you
Pierre

Get a can of spray contact cleaner. Take the battery out and then spray down the areas where you think the gel got. Let it dry for a while, then give it another shot. Try that a few times before giving up.

It is electrical contact cleaner. Sometimes smaller electronics component stores like Radio Shack or similar will have it, but if you have a bigger electronic part or hobbyist store you'll have better luck without getting screwed on the price. Look near soldering irons and loose resistors and the like.

99% isopropyl alcohol should also work.

You don't want to be dipping the system in alcohol though. The point is to be spraying contact cleaner (which is better) and have the spraying action help dislodge any gel that's worked its way into unseen cracks and corners.

I understood it to be a problem with the battery compartment or contacts. OP says it isn't on the motherboard.

Since he isn't sure how it got in the first place and the cart connector is a cramped place, I'd still say spraying is a better idea. Using cardboard/cloth in the cart slot is only going to get at the surface of the pins, it wouldn't going to work as well in the space under the pins.

Pierre what did I tell you about watching porn on your 3DS, nothing good would come of it.
