When it comes to Suda it seems like everyone forgets about Killer 7, which is a pretty damn neat game.

Just a question, but am I the only person who's not super hyped for this game?

I don't know, I can never decide if I like Suda's work as a whole or not. I didn't like the No More Heroes games or Killer 7, but I loved Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned.

brunoafh wrote:Just curious did you play No More Heroes? You seem to have a lot of praise for Lollipop Chainsaw, which is going on the NMH template so you would probably like it a lot. I think the original NMH is his best game by a mile. It kind of makes Lollipop Chainsaw look like half a game. It's almost like after No More Heroes, Suda has kind of just been like "meh" with his projects. It's also worth noting that he hasn't had the role of complete direction/writing/design since No More Heroes, something I think not everyone fully realizes with these Grasshopper Manufacture games.

I intend to play NMH sometime soon. I like fun, silly Suda. Killer is Dead takes itself a bit too seriously. I've beaten it since my last post in this thread, and I feel like there's supposed to be some serious message at the end of it but I don't know what it is and I honestly don't care. Everything about the story is vague and unexplained and the characters just don't connect with me on any level.

What you said about him not having full control over recent games is interesting. I feel like Suda is only responsible for 50% of what I loved about Lollipop Chainsaw (the gameplay) and James Gunn is responsible for the other 50% (the script). So it'll be interesting playing a full Suda game in NMH.

I feel like Killer is Dead is a big step down from Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned. The whole thing is just very vanilla and bland. Regardless of where they rank among his other works, I think Shadows and Chainsaw both showed some creative inspiration and had some energy to them. Killer is Dead feels like a lazy effort by someone who only half cared. The combat is simplistic. The level designs are very by the numbers, odd for a Suda game. And the story feels like a bunch of pretentious stuff thrown together to fool you into thinking the game has some special message...when it's really just a story that doesn't make any sense because half of it is never explained or shown to you. At the very least, it would have been nice if the characters were cool, but they are all so forgettable.

Actually, in a weird sort of way Killer is Dead is like a crappy Cowboy Bebop. It's about a group of bounty hunter types taking on jobs with Mondo being the loner protagonist skilled in the martial arts i.e. Spike, Bryan being the black cyborg guy who is the boss i.e. Jett, Vivienne being the hot, femme fatale chick who complains all the time i.e. Faye Valentine, Mika being the annoyingly weird and high energy young girl who is apparently supposed to be cute i.e. Edward and David being a sword wielding main villain with a close tie to the protagonist who wants to kill a girl he likes i.e. Vicious. All the game's missing is some animal to represent Ein. Too bad the characters and story are not even remotely as appealing as Cowboy Bebop.

Okay I completed this game today so I'll leave my thoughts here.

This game is bizarre, stupid, and mostly nonsensical. The game remained entertaining and fun because of it all though. In many ways it's a mediocre game, but the combat is interesting enough to hold your attention and the art style on display is quite nice.

There is some really noticeable screen-tearing in certain areas though and some boss fights feel kind of lame in their design.

As the credits began to roll I strangely felt both confused and satisfied in what I had experienced. I can't really say I like it more than No More Heroes but I'd place it ahead of Shadows of the Damned for sure. I'd say I like NMH more because it has more in game variety, more humor, and seems to have a more comprehensible story.

(Still have yet to play Killer7 or NMH2)

Judging from a lot of comments here, I think I'll wait to pick this one up in the bargain bin...

It's on my Steam wish list, just waiting for a sale. It can't be that bad.
