How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?

... TMNT Tournament Fighters are all games that I bought and spent 5-30 minutes with just to check them out, but haven't yet had the chance to actually play.

I've always been quite partial to Tournament Fighters, especially when I get a few friends over to play it. Might even prefer it over Street Fighter 2 in terms of my go-to SNES fighting game. I'd recommend you give it another try when you have the time.

Here's the problem with me and fighting games: I find they're a LOT more fun to play with people (versus the computer) and I rarely get to play retro games with other people. So for me to play fighting games, it's gonna be 1-player 99.9% of the time.

I swear I'm the only person that likes the original Final Fight SNES port. Yeah it's only 1-player but I love the sound and the gigantic sprites. Plus it's like $10 or less.

No, I enjoy it also. I like its basic style.

I only ever picked up and played TMNT Tournament Fighters....

for the first Blockbuster World Game Championship in 1994.

Yup, I participated in that. The rental cases all read "Practice or Perish!" and I spammed the heck out of Don's X button attack until I got the power meter up to unleash the fire dragon!

Admittedly, it didn't take me very far. Still a decent game.

I used to play TMNT: Tournament Fighters a lot when I was a kid. Both the SNES and Genesis versions. It's one of those games that I can say without reservations that the SNES version wins. The Genesis game is just awful. I wish Casey Jones were a playable character in the SNES game though. Other than that minor non-complaint it's a really solid fighting game that gets overlooked way too often.

My go-to fighters on the SNES are Power Rangers: Fighting Edition and its improved younger Super Famicom brother Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. Not just two of the best fighting games on the console but two of the best licensed games. It kills me that Bandai didn't do more with that wonderful engine.

I've also got some nostalgia for the World Heroes games but I wouldn't put them above Street Fighter II.

The SNES version of Tournament Fighters is awesome. Excellent fighting game. I really wish I didn't have my SNES games arranged like they are, because I would be playing that game way more often.

I know it's going to sound sacrilegious, but I like Mortal Kombat 3 way more than Mortal Kombat 2 as a fighting game.

MK Trilogy on PS1 is my favorite. It mashes all 3 of the original MK trilogy into one giant roster (including multiple versions of the same character) and selection of levels.

So I went over to Price Charting today after seeing that Zombies Ate My Neighbors commands a price of $20 and up these days... they're not kidding! Overall, the VGPC price index for SNES is currently $14-$15. I'd say roughly 60% of their average prices are over $10! What a crazy time to be a SNES collector.

I found an interesting piece of SNES history on the site - the M.A.C.S, a special shooting simulator for US Army training.

Check out this article at SNES Central. Not only is it rare, but much like the SNES game that had the exercise cycle as an accessory, this one also had its own special "light gun" with it.

VGPC currently lists the average SNES game price at $15.33, though they tend not to incorporate shipping and handling fees, so their estimates tend to be on the low side in my opinion.

And M.A.C.S. has been growing in interest in the last few years. The cart pops up occasionally on eBay, though I believe the modified trainer rifles have only appeared once and sold for a hefty price.

In the meantime, I've acquired Rival Turf! and Brain Lord, which will likely be my next RPG after I finish my crawl through Ogre Battle. Does anyone have any experience with Brain Lord? I'm not colorblind, so I won't have any issues there(I've heard it's not cb-friendly).
