I had been really wanting this one for Christmas, but the high price rather makes me feel like just waiting. I've never played Chrono Trigger before and the DS is my favorite platform these days, so I'll get my hands on a copy eventually.

I've been playing the playstation port for years. I picked it up when it was new and never played through it due to the horrible load times. But then I gave it a go when I bought a Playstation 2 with fast loading turned on, and its basically like playing it on SNES, a 100% improvement over the PS1. Just something to remember if you have a PS2 and on a budget.

Honestly, if you've never played it before then it is well worth the $40 price tag. It's only for the veterans of the game that the $40 starts to be less and less worth it.

Really? I never got that to work for me. Loading seemed exactly the same on the PS2. :?

Anyway, all the talk about the DS version inspired me to start playing again. I used to own a complete and mint SNES copy, but ended up selling it for around $120 when I needed money badly. I later bought the Final Fantasy Chronicles for $15 so I could at least own a version of the game. Honestly, I got used to the loading after a few hours of play and now I'm enjoying the game just as much as I did in 1994.

That feature actually works?! I've never found a game that it improved the load times on. Found some games that it caused glitches with. Plus virtually every game with 2D sprites has weird 1 pixel wide black lines a few pixels outside of the sprites on my PS2. Never figured out why. Is that a problem with just the Slims?

Edit: I still get bullshit load times in CT here man. Your PS2 is special.

I am enjoying the heck out this game.
I had it back in the day for the SNES, paid like $80 new for it at Toys R Us. I beat it, never played it again, and I remember very little about it. Something about a huge castle or something in the ending. I also know that there is more than one ending so with my lack of memory and desire to play it again I am loving this game. I am avoiding codes and FAQs and just having fun... something I can not easily say about modern games.

I just went and tried it again on my PS2-slim. First I did it with disc speed normal, kinda slow. But when I switched to fast back to back, it seemed to give it just enough of a bump to make it acceptable. That would be a better way to describe it, calling it SNES CT was over zealous :) . I think I'm going to have to dig up my PS1 at my folks house and give it a shot on the old beast.

I actually cant stand the original menus now that I tried DS. Everything is just laid out much better.

Indeed. If you've never played, BUY IT NOW! It's phenomenal~ I'm playing it again (ROM) and it's still great after all these years. :D

Yes i also get long loading times to the PS1 Port, i tried on

- ps2 with fast loading turned on

- PSP with fast loading turned on

- ePSXe and psx emulator

All with the same results. Perhaps the fast loading option in ps2 can make a difference depending on the model and firmware version. Whatever...

I played the ROM version in zsnes (yes i am cheap), i actually pretty much enjoyed it but never finished it due to a number of reasons.

I did a test play through on the DS version, i was intended to play for about 15 minutes just to see how the game plays, but i played for 2+ hours lol

But i will not touch it again anytime soon, i got a shit load of games to play. If i played it again on the future i will start all over from the beginning and hopefully beat it.
