Hard to say definitively, since product lines aren't usually replaced all at once, and even then it's not uncommon for some cards in the lineup to be based on the same chip as a previous model. Overall improvement varies too.
Rumblings seem to be Q1-2 for the 800 series, but what I'd generally expect is that it'll be one or two upper/mid upper tier models, with the rest of the series being released (or rebranded) over the subsequent 3-6 months.
Lately there's usually a new series around annually, but cards can often stay relevant for a couple generations or so, depending on how big a jump the new cards are, and what prices wind up looking like. Cards like the HD4850 stuck around for a long time due to settling at a relatively low price (or the G92 chips, which stuck around for three generations of nVidia cards as the 8800 GT, 9800 GTX, and GT 250).

Good to know.
So I got a two year extended warranty on my 280x and I had planned on returning it to complain about the coil whine and picking up a 290 when the non reference cards are released. Do you think I'd be better served by waiting until the next iteration comes out or waiting for a price drop on the 290x's? I'll only be playing at 1080 so I know the 280 itself would be fine for me but I want to not have to worry about anything for awhile and all that.
Also thanks to all the miners I probably won't even be able to pick up another card until at least the summer. The prices on amd cards is ridiculous right now. If I didn't have my warranty I'd be half tempted to sell my card and go nvidia.

post-xmas PC upgrades... got a nice new Steel Series mousepad, upped my RAM to 8GB (and still have a stick of 2GB to toss in there as well), hooked up my new Logitech 2.1 speakers w/ subwoofer and shit sounds sick w/ some A$AP Rocky blaring, and confirmed my Creative Fatality headset is working for Steam voicechat.

Re: PC build thread
So I did the initial set up for my PC today. Got the motherboard, RAM, CPU, CPU cooling fan, power supply, DVD drive, hard drive, and wi-fi card all set up and plugged in. Turned it on and I can at least confirm that I got the fans plugged in correctly since they all started spinning.
Now I just need to purchase the keyboard and graphics card and I'll be ready to start it up for real and see if I screwed anything up.

Time to get excite.
Graphics card arrived in the mail today, last part I needed. I slipped that bad boy in and the last few hours have been a process of getting everything up and running. Had a couple speed bumps along the way but it all seems to be working fine. Currently in the process of installing all my Windows drivers.
Also something that's kinda funny. I'm quite confident that my new gaming rig will stay nice and cool no matter what stress I put it through. Has two small fans on the GPU, one big one on the CPU, one big one in the power supply (Though that seems to be one of those heat sensitive ones which doesn't turn on unless needed), and two big fans built into the case itself. I actually feel myself get cold just from sitting next to it.
Thing is pretty loud though.

Congrats!
Yeah, high end PCs tend to be quite loud. I'm in the process of making my current rig quiet. Picking up an NXZT h230 case tomorrow and 4 quiet fans.

I recommend Cougar for some quiet fans, Ryan. I've had them in my last couple builds. Lots of chilly air and quiet.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Congrats!
