How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?

Hey, you've got some great stuff. I'd suggest trying these out, if you haven't yet: Arkanoid, Captain Commando, Cybernator, Hook, Knights of the Round, Ninja Warriors, Plok, Skyblazer, TMNT Tournament Fighters, Top Gear 3000, and X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse.

Captain Commando, Cybernator, Skyblazer, and TMNT Tournament Fighters are all games that I bought and spent 5-30 minutes with just to check them out, but haven't yet had the chance to actually play. I was considering adding Captain Commando to my list.

Knights of the Round and Plok, I've spent a decent amount of time with, but have not ever beat. I wasn't planning on adding Knights to my list, but I was thinking about Plok. I wasn't really getting into Plok, but I was thinking about giving it another go. IIRC, there's no saving. Not even a password. Is that correct? That's what annoyed me about the game.

X-Men Mutant Apocalypse I bought because a friend was showing me some SNES games, and I thought that one was pretty cool. So I picked myself up a copy, I just haven't played it yet.

And Skyblazer is already on the list.

I swear I'm the only person that likes the original Final Fight SNES port. Yeah it's only 1-player but I love the sound and the gigantic sprites. Plus it's like $10 or less.

You're not. I also think it is awesome. I just wish it had come out a bit later in the SNES's lifetime so that the programmers - who would have been more experienced with the hardware by that point - could have worked in more of the arcade game's features.

I legitimately enjoy the first Final Fight on the SNES. Haggar's GNYRRAUGH!! alone was worth the 5 bucks I paid for the game. The music on it is pretty memorable too.

Here's what I think is odd: Final Fight 2 came out for SNES in 1993. It had 3 characters to choose from, an option menu right out of the box (you needed to press some buttons to access the options menu on the first FF), and it included co-op play. A year later Final Fight Guy comes out. Exact same game as the first one, but with Guy instead of Cody. Everything else is the same. Why? In 3 years they couldn't even do a better version of the first game? No wonder it was a Blockbuster rental only (I think).

They could have added a second player but perhaps they would have had to make other concessions that would've made the game less arcade accurate.

The later games were designed for the SNES from the ground up so were able to better work within its limitations.

Or maybe when they released Final Fight Guy they felt gamers would've felt cheated if they released an enhanced version after they bought the original game? Or more likely Final Fight 2 was already in the works and they didn't want to overshadow its co-op feature. I'd love to know the real reason myself.

The Sega CD got a great version at least.

You got a point. I just thought it was interesting something like that would be released even after the superior FF2. Now if I can only find an affordable copy (IE one that doesn't cost me an arm and 2 legs) of Final Fight 3 I'd be set.

I saw some of the longplay of the Sega CD version and the only thing I didn't really care for too much was the music. But that's just me. I don't have a Sega CD (nor do I care to really own one myself) so I can't comment on how the game controls.

I have the GBA port (Final Fight One) though and that one is awesome. Saved progress and unlockables? Yes please.

I also want that Double Dragon Advance as well. They're used to be copies on Amazon that were complete for around 20 bucks or so + shipping sometime last year and prior even to that, and I kept putting it off saying "I'll get it next time". Well, not anymore. Cheapest price there is 32 bucks plus shipping, for cart only. Almost 50 bucks now for complete in box. For a GBA game that's definitely expensive. Not quite Ninja 5-0 rare and expensive, but it's getting closer.

I've always been quite partial to Tournament Fighters, especially when I get a few friends over to play it. Might even prefer it over Street Fighter 2 in terms of my go-to SNES fighting game. I'd recommend you give it another try when you have the time.

I used to play TMNT: Tournament Fighters a lot when I was a kid. Both the SNES and Genesis versions. It's one of those games that I can say without reservations that the SNES version wins. The Genesis game is just awful. I wish Casey Jones were a playable character in the SNES game though. Other than that minor non-complaint it's a really solid fighting game that gets overlooked way too often.

My go-to fighters on the SNES are Power Rangers: Fighting Edition and its improved younger Super Famicom brother Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. Not just two of the best fighting games on the console but two of the best licensed games. It kills me that Bandai didn't do more with that wonderful engine.

I've also got some nostalgia for the World Heroes games but I wouldn't put them above Street Fighter II.

Price Charting seems to indicate that the loose copies of DDA start around $20. Not like Ninja 5-0 at all!!!!

Just have to wait for a good price on it, is all. Another infamous Atlus GBA release, River City Ransom EX, doesn't get to DD's level of price, but it can be pretty high. I got it for $4.

The GBA can do SNES ports reasonably well. I love Super Ghouls & Ghosts. Saving anywhere is a nice bonus. That one can get pretty pricey too, but it's more reasonable than DD or RCR.

Yikes, even Pocky & Rocky on the GBA is pretty high! The price is better than the SNES carts now, I imagine. Too bad, because P&R 2 is great.
