How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?

Random aside: one thing the NES Mega Man games did really well were making use of all the different weapons in the levels instead of just the bosses. (Especially Mega Man 2 and not just for the Metal Blade.) For MMX and most of MMX2, I feel like you can just blaze through the entire game with just the super-charged arm cannon and the weapons hardly even matter.

That was actually the reason that for Mega Man 9 they removed the Mega Buster. If you ignore stage gimmicks like how Crash Bombs can blow through certain walls and the mobility items, then boss weapons generally fit the purpose of "makes it easier to take down an enemy". When you have the Mega Buster that frequently removes even that advantage of boss weapons.

That said, you also didn't really need it in Mega Man 9. I managed to beat all of the bosses on my first run through MM9 using only the base shots. You really only needed the special weapons to get through specific points in the Wily stages.

I just beat Mega Man X

I got my own method for beating Sigma's dog and Sigma's first form. I'd basically X-buster the dog and try to take minimal damage, then at the start of Sigma's first form I'd climb the left wall and wait for him. I'd recover to 100% health and drop to the floor and wait for him, then Hadoken his ass. Then after getting my ass kicked against his second form a couple of times, I watched this video...



After watching that video, beating his second form was cake. I would just Hadoken the dog and Sigma's first form. I would have beat his second form on my first try, but I got a little too close with using the health restore and ended up dying. I beat him on the next try after that.

So, even though I don't have an actual list down, I can scratch one game off my SNES 2014 Challenge (or whatever the hell you wanna call it).

On to Mega Man X2 now, I guess.

I think you are talking about the charge shot MrPopo, cause the mega buster is just his standard attack weapon.

Nope, the Mega Buster is specifically his ability to charge up his shots; rewatch the intro to Mega Man 4 where they introduced it.

I'm not so sure if I wanna go straight onto MMX2. I just beat the intro stage and the Alligator dude in X2. But I'm looking at my (small) heath meter and a heart capsule that I can't get to yet and thinking, "Dammit! I just got all this shit!" You know?

Certain types of games I have a hard time playing back to back. Something like Mario, Sonic, Castlevania, or DKC I can play back to back. But RPGs or any type of "collect-a-thon" in a game, I have a hard time doing multiples in a row.

It's always been my favorite console, and for one reason or another I haven't been playing much of it the past few years. 2013 was the worst. I never actually played a SNES game in 2013. I spent a LOT of time turning the SNES on, but only to look at the picture quality. I feel like I wasted so much time fiddling with the stupid component mod, messing around with transcoding S-Video or RGB into component so I can use it on my new HDTV, converting my 1chip PAL SNES to NTSC and adding digital audio and RGB output (that I'm not even fucking using!), etc.

Now that I think about it, I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from doing all that. The time and money I spent on all that crap, I could have just bought an XRGB-mini and called it a day.

The Chinese S-Video-to-HDMI thing that I'm using now is *OK*, but maybe some time during this year I can get the funds to buy an XRGB. Maybe I'll part with something from my collection.

Hope you people don't mind me ranting so much. Sometimes I use RB to think out load.

Chrono Trigger and FF6 are etched in stone, I want to play those two this year. But as you can see, I have a decent list of other RPGs that I wanna play. And it was already cut down from a bigger list! I know it doesn't matter so much, but I'd like to play both Secret of Manas and the Quintet "trilogy" with out too much time in between. I'd like to give myself only 3 or 4 RPGs to play for the entire year, and since I already have two, that leaves me with only one or two to add to the list. So I'll just have to give it some more thought and see which games will make it to the list.

As for games that aren't RPGs, I know there's more that I've put on a "mental" list but have since forgotten. I'd like to add 2-4 more games to that list, possibly.

As for games that I wanna replay, there's actually many. But that's sort of why I'm making a list for myself. I wanna try and balance playing new games with replaying old games.

Anyway, this is just a preliminary list.

Ok Ziggy, you got plenty of platformers. But what about beat 'em ups, fighters, and general action/adventure? If you're looking to explore a bit, I suggest playing things like The Peace Keepers, Power Instinct, The King of Dragons, Super Turrican, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, or WeaponLord.
