I've played it before. It's good. It's not like the usual fast paced run-n-gun style of MS games though. It's a bit slower, with missions. More platforming. Even a shmup-inspired stage.

That's cool - I really like the other portable Metal Slug games: Advance, 7, and XX (which is really just a reboot of 7). I should really snag the MS Anthology and those NGPC titles, then I think I'd have at least one version of every game (except for that crappy 3D one that was never released in the States).

I don't know about First Mission, but Second Mission also has a list of all found hostages, two playable characters with different stories, branching routes, and even a health system.

there are two characters to choose from in 1st Mission, though I don't believe they change the levels. But the first game does have some branching paths.
