Why the difference? Because I don't quite remember all the item locations in X2 from memory as well as I do with X, plus I had to interrupt my stage progression to beat the X Hunters to get Zero's parts, so that took a little while. I will say that X2 has the easier final boss battles, but they're also more fun (IMO at least).
Same scenario for me, almost exactly. I have a friend that I marathon the X games with every so often, and our times are pretty close to yours. X is the easiest for us, since we have almost the entire game committed to memory, meaning it usually takes about 2 hours. X2, like you said, is a bit tougher and usually takes us 3-4 hours, depending on whether we care to save Zero. And our first run of X3 was a while ago, and it ended up taking about 6 hours because neither of us had ever beaten it before. Our long term goal is to beat all three back to back in one day, so we've got to cut our times down on X2 and X3 if we ever hope to accomplish that.

If you avoid taking that thing, most of the enemies are 1 hit kill bats, and they all drop lots of energy. Then there's the two big capsules midway through the level, and the one at the end (where you'd get the Hadoken). Then in the beginning, if you don't take the ride, there's 1 odd bat that seems to always drop an extra life. So all you have to do is play that level 2 or 3 times and you'll fill your energy tanks and gain a couple extra lives.
Yup, this is a great place to farm for health/lives at any point in the game. Same goes for that area with the worms that Gunstar mentioned, especially if you'd rather not back out of the final stage.

The big fat bat toward the beginning will drop an extra life every 6 or 7 times you kill it

X3 is definitely the longest if you want to get all of the items (and of course you do) because there's so many damned items to get. The ride armors are really cool, but they're also kind of pointless ultimately except as items needed to get other items since there are only a few points in the game where you get to use them.

I agree that the SNES version of X3 is superior. The cutscenes in the 32-bit port are cool but everything else is worse. X3 doesn't have my favorite soundtrack to begin with but the CD version of it is dreadful elevator music.

Also I like to think Armored Armadillo's stage was designed like that on purpose to make sure you have full health in order to get the Hadoken.

You don't need full health to get the Hadoken. You just need to have all the items (all weapons, upgrades, etc).

I think that rumor started because the Hadoken only shows up every so often (took me 3 or 4 tries before it was there) and since you end up getting full health at that part, people probably assumed you NEED full health for it to appear.

You have a problem importing?
Nope. I'm going to snag a copy of Rockman X3 soon (provided my tune up for my car tomorrow morning stays at just a $70 oil change + smog check).
But how will you follow the highly nuanced story in Japanese?

I just couldn't bear to play through the game without having Zero constantly telling me how much potential I have, so I bit the bullet and bought the US version. That and Harvest Moon are the only two games I've ever allowed myself to pay over $100 for. Sorry for perpetuating the insane SNES game pricing, but I had to complete my personal collection.

All this talk of MMX -- great series.

MMX2 was probably the best on the SNES. Everything was just right. Weapons, stages, graphics, music, difficulty. Lots more to find and do.

MMX3 was way too difficult for me. I think I took the wrong path to start out. Plus, there's so much to keep track of.

MM7 was one tough game. I beat it on the MM Anniversary Collection, with 1 point of health left. When I beat MM8, the same thing.

I've got the Megaman X Collection now, but I understand the MMX3 port is from a 32 bit version.

Yes and those intro videos of the bosses suck compared to the normal maverick presentation scene from the SNES games :(

Wily Capsule 7 is one of the most demonic bosses ever. They even said in the Complete Works art book that they wanted to design a boss that forced you to use an E-Tank. It can be done without taking damage though, if you're the Mega Man Jesus.
