Well I made it to the third part of the last level before I shut the console off, and it wasn't too hard. If I end up with a snow day tomorrow, and don't go into work, I'll most likely beat this game. Either that or get frustrated without and move on to MMX2.

I have all four energy tanks and all the upgrades. Worst case scenario is that I have to play through the Armidillo level a bunch of times to fill the four tanks up, then continue on with the last level. That is, assuming the final final boss isn't fucking rediculous.

I got the Hadoken upgrade, too. So let's see if that helps. I'll have to be extra careful, because this thing only works when you're at full health. Remember, I suck at Mega Man games. I mean, why can't you duck?

Come to think of it, I've never beat a single Mega Man game. I own 1-6 for the NES, 9 and 10 on WiiWare, 7 and MMX 1-3 on the SNES, but I've never actually rolled the credits on any of them. I made it to the final boss on MM7 and quit, I think that's the furthest I've ever gotten in a Mega Man game. I mean, I like the game play. I just tend not to put up with them well towards the end.

Well either way, by the end of tomorrow, I'll be moving on to MMX2 whether I beat MMX or not.

Don't bother. It is possible to use the Hadouken on Sigma's final form, but it's hard to do as you only have a limited window of opportunity to do it. Also, if you're off in the slightest it'll bounce off like any other attack. You can see someone fuck it up here. I've never been able to do it myself.

As for tips I'd recommend reading =http://mmhp.net/GameHints/MMX1.html#Bossesthis.

You can in X5,6, and 8. :D

There's an area right before the final boss where these worm things crawl out of holes in the wall. You can use the charged rolling shield to grind health and 1-ups making the final boss a lot more manageable.

Which is good, because his final form is pretty challenging.

And that's where it all went to hell.

The real reason is they didn't want to over-complicate things in the original games. They thought it would be hard for the player to differentiate between shots that needed to be ducked and shots that didn't given the size of the sprites. The slide move was eventually worked in to give you a duck that also added mobility. In the later games not being able to duck just became tradition. It's what people expected from the controls.

And in defense of their original argument against ducking, its addition in X5 creates some aggravating moments due to working it into level design.

I actually didn't care for the Mega Man X series growing up, as I had enjoyed the original series and felt the change was unnecessary. And years later, when I got the chance to try the MMX collection, I had already played MMX7, and that kind of spoiled things for me...
I was the exact opposite. I never bothered with the original MM games on the NES at all and started with X and X2. I enjoyed those two immensely and when I played my first "classic" Mega Man game starting with MM7 on the SNES in later 2012 I was like "WTF? THIS ISN'T AS GOOD?!?!?!". It's not bad really, and is enjoyable, but I prefer X and X2 way more. I didn't say X3 because after the experience my mom had in trying to find X2 for me in 1996, I didn't want to risk asking her to find X3 for me. For me, that is the Holy Grail of games. I could give two shits about Earthbound, I just want my Mega Man X3, dammit!, but not at 127 dollars!!!

Not even on the Mega Man X Collection or the many ports of Mega Man X3? For shame. Those are probably the best two in the series. Take that with a grain of salt, though since I change m mind as to which of the first four Mega Man X games are the best every week or so.
I honestly would rather play X3 on the SNES than on any of the other platforms. Not enough differences for me to want to get one of the ports, especially since the remixed music isn't as good as that in the original SNES music.

I never found the Mega Man X games to be that hard. When I was a kid I found them hard, but I also sucked at video games. So long as you know which order to defeat the bosses the games aren't that difficult. I always thought the original Mega Man games were the hard ones.
Last year was my most recent playthrough of X and X2 (which I did in 2 days). I can 100% X in roughly 2 hours, give or take. X2 it took me about 3 hours to 100% it. Why the difference? Because I don't quite remember all the item locations in X2 from memory as well as I do with X, plus I had to interrupt my stage progression to beat the X Hunters to get Zero's parts, so that took a little while. I will say that X2 has the easier final boss battles, but they're also more fun (IMO at least).

Nope. I'm going to snag a copy of Rockman X3 soon (provided my tune up for my car tomorrow morning stays at just a $70 oil change + smog check).

I'm not sure what that is but it sounds like some Cali BS.

But back on topic, yeah your best bet for MMX 2 and 3 is to import Rockman carts from Japan. So much cheaper, and you can easily mod a SNES to play SFC carts by yourself. Literally all you do is cut out a plastic tab, just like with the N64.

It's so you don't destroy this little place on which all of us live.

Do grab MMX3. Personally only MMX really captivated me, but the sequels are fine jobs, too.

Well I'll be home all day because of the snow. Right now I've got MMX on. I'm up to the third part of the final stages. I have 4 full energy tanks and 8 lives.

I found the Armadillo stage to be great to play in between the final stages. Those platforms that wisp you across portions of the level, instant killing any enemy in it's path... If you avoid taking that thing, most of the enemies are 1 hit kill bats, and they all drop lots of energy. Then there's the two big capsules midway through the level, and the one at the end (where you'd get the Hadoken). Then in the beginning, if you don't take the ride, there's 1 odd bat that seems to always drop an extra life. So all you have to do is play that level 2 or 3 times and you'll fill your energy tanks and gain a couple extra lives.
