Ack wrote:Oh yes, there are definitely more. Lots more if you end up including imports. I would really suggest you hold off on imports at first and just stick to the major ones that got a NTSC-U release for now, so: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire 2, Lufia, Lufia II, Robotrek, 7th Saga, Arcana, Super Mario RPG, The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang, Ogre Battle, Shadowrun, etc...
Oh, I know there's plenty more! That's why I don't wanna hear about any more!

Well luckily I've already played a few. FF4, FF5, Breath of Fire (1), Star Ocean, Super Mario RPG, EVO (one of my favorite SNES games, actual) and maybe a few more that I'm not remembering.

I own Paladin's Quest but never played it... yay or nay? It gets mixed reviews, IIRC.

Also, just curious, is FF Mystic Quest worth playing?

Ack & Ziggy haven't played Mega Man X2 or X3? :o
Not even on the Mega Man X Collection or the many ports of Mega Man X3? For shame. Those are probably the best two in the series. Take that with a grain of salt, though since I change m mind as to which of the first four Mega Man X games are the best every week or so.

I never found the Mega Man X games to be that hard. When I was a kid I found them hard, but I also sucked at video games. So long as you know which order to defeat the bosses the games aren't that difficult. I always thought the original Mega Man games were the hard ones.

OK, so maybe some one can answer me this...

In Mega Man X, I've beat all the bosses and got to the final "stage". But now how does the password system work? I know the final stage is split up into like 3 or 4 parts. And you get a password then returned to the map screen after each part. I thought those passwords would return me to where I left off.

I've been playing the game pretty much all day, and just had my SNES powered on the entire time. So I beat the first two parts of the final stage, then got the password, then shut my SNES off. I turn it back on, put in the password, and now I'm starting at the first part of the final stage. Is that right? If so... that kinda sucks. I wish I would have known, I wouldn't have shut the SNES off. I was planning on beating this game tonight, now I'm not sure if I want to.

Unfortunately, that's sort of a Mega Man tradition. IIRC, all three of the X games do it as do all of the NES Classic Mega Man games (and VII). Pretty bullshit in my opinion. That's why I get into the habit of playing the Mega Man games in one sitting or saving the final area for some other time.

That was my problem with the first X game. The second one on the other hand had short Sigma fortress stages so I didn't mind and beat it easily in one sitting.

I wondered how long that would take.

I actually didn't care for the Mega Man X series growing up, as I had enjoyed the original series and felt the change was unnecessary. And years later, when I got the chance to try the MMX collection, I had already played MMX7, and that kind of spoiled things for me...

I usually beat Mega Man games in one sitting too but I've also been playing them for a long time.

A lot of people tend to hate the Wily/Sigma levels in Mega Man games. I don't know how many times I've talked to people who just beat the eight bosses and quit.

Anyway Mega Man X and X2 are both pretty equal in terms of difficulty, neither are terribly stressful. X2 definitely has easier final levels though as well as an absolute pushover final boss.

X3 has some seriously front-loaded difficulty. Until you get the chest piece of the armor expect to take loads of damage. I think they probably wanted you to make use of Zero to get past tough parts but since you can only use him for 1/3 of any level he's not much help.

But after that its difficulty is overstated. It has probably the most predictable maverick patterns out of the first 3 games. The final boss is one of the hardest Sigma forms in the entire series though, mainly because of his tiny, tiny hit box. Nothing too impossible though.

X is the easiest of the SNES games IMO, until you get to Sigma anyway. I always thought X2 was a bit tougher (and better). X3 is on another level, that one's always treated me poorly.

The MMX series is fine difficulty-wise...as long as you get all the power-ups. Those extra energy tanks and health bonuses really add up...
