Games Beaten 2014
Re: Games Beaten 2014
I beat Truxton a few days ago... on easy. I got frustrated that night and just decided to Credit Feed the game so that I can at least see the end. Also, you might remember that I posted that I was planning to beat this game on Hard Mode. Well, I retract that declaration as I now know that the amount of credits you're allotted isn't the only difference between the three difficulties. I can't remember where I read that, but whoever said it was talking out their ass.

Games Beaten 2014:
1.GTA V(360)
Beat the GTA V main story today still have a lot to do around town and online to conquer though. Overall I really enjoyed it each of the characters was great and having 3 mains to swap between wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I never felt like I was missing out on the action and the game warned me whenever I needed to swap for a critical moment or to save a character from death. The heists were also amazing although I felt the final one was probably the easiest
. Only thing I didn't care for was the ending which was kind of weak in my opinion seeing as I choose the "Death wish" option I expected a bit more of a challenge, but things were amazingly easy. It was nice that they tied up a lot of the loose ends but it left me feeling like nobody really stood a chance against my team in the first place
.
Can't wait to see the expansions they make for this game though there were a lot of areas that I think were underutilized on the map and there are tons of interesting characters that could stand to have their stories expanded.

Re: Games Beaten 2014
Akumajou Dracula/Super Castlevania - (Super Famicom)
Castlevania Bloodlines - (Genesis)
Phantasy Star Online ver 2 (Very Hard Mode) - (Dreamcast)
Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth - (Wii)
Oh yeah, that's the stuff. Went back to Bloodlines after Super CV IV, and it made me very happy. I'm sure a lot of people feel Bloodlines is too short compared to Super CV IV (which is generally a criticism I hate hearing about video games, anyway) but I think it's really more of an illusion due to the number of Stages between the two. In terms of speed runs, the times to beat on both are comparable, and for me, Bloodlines feels far more varied in aesthetic, and stage design in general. Also, weapon controls give just enough freedom to add to the player's arsenal of attacks without breaking the game and that need to plan out one's movements that is so classicvania. I still think Rondo of Blood is overall better, but Bloodlines is within reaching distance.
PSO is one of the first games I spent an unhealthy amount of time with (after Pokemon Red, if 100+ hours sounds "unhealthy") and even with 200 hours on my original character, I'd never bothered to clear Very Hard mode, offline. Playing through the four main dungeons again made me remember quite vividly that sense of just needing to do one more run to see how many mats would drop, or if I could find a ?SECRET WEAPON. My character is well beyond the point of needing any drops from Very Hard mode, but I did get some trigrinders for boosting some red weapons that I have, and I found a couple of pretty good armor slot enhancements as well. Kind of difficult to feel ways about it, exactly as I did back in the day, without playing online, though. Hopefully I can get set up on a v.2 server sometime before the end of the month to relive the full experience.
So, CV Rebirth is a pretty excellent reboot of Castlevania. It's fairly impressive, the quality of Hudson and Konami reboots on the Wii, really. It's exceptionally well crafted for a style of game in the series that hadn't really been made in nearly a decade. There are a mountain of things they did really, really right with CV Rebirth, not the least of which is the compilation of remixed tracks from earlier classicvanias that are arranged so perfectly that in most cases I prefer the remixes to the originals. I also love how, in keeping with the motif of the soundtrack, the game pulls from so many games in the classicvania heritage, while making it feel like a very separate experience at the same time. The only thing I'm not really that keen on is the length of Stage 5. Would have been nice if they had just split it into two levels, as it's crazy the way it is. Stage 5 of the original Castlevania is probably more insane by comparison, but CV Rebirth's Stage 5 is probably twice as long, and almost as tough as the final corridor in the original in two or three different spots.
Was playing a bit of Akumajou Densetsu (CV III) after beating CV Rebirth, and that game's pretty good, too. Was just kind of farting around up to Stage 5, and didn't really try using the extra characters at all, but it does seem like a good'n.

1. Bad Dudes vs. DragonNinja (Wii - Data East Arcade Classics)
2. Caveman Ninja (Wii - Data East Arcade Classics)
3. Crude Buster (Wii - Data East Arcade Classics)
4. Heavy Barrel (Wii - Data East Arcade Classics)
5. Secret Agent (Wii - Data East Arcade Classics)
6. Wizard Fire (Wii - Data East Arcade Classics)
7. Super Mario Land (Game Boy)
I love this game. And to me it always felt like the true "sequel" to Super Mario Bros. (Lost Levels feels like a sadistic ROM hack and Super Mario Bros. 2 is a re-skin of a completely different game).
Beat the game twice, as a "Hard Mode" is unlocked after the first playthrough. And I just discovered the hidden "elevators" for the first time. Can't believe I owned this game for over 20 years and didn't know about those...

Re: Games Beaten 2014
I'm actually starting to try and beat some games this year. Let's get a list started!
1. Game Dev Tycoon (PC)
Nice little game. Lots of replayability and I'll probably go back to it fairly soon.
2. Sam & Max 301: The Penal Zone (PC)
I'd put this one off for a while but got through it. Some of the puzzles are not-so-straightforward but it's a good story.
3. Poker Night 2 (PC)
Decent enough poker game with some good dialog. It gets a bit old however, but it changes up when you make the Inventory's decor change. Omaha was a good addition to this one but it still needs multiplayer desperately...
4. Super Hexagon (PC)
For those who don't know, Super Hexagon is really, really difficult. I am super proud of myself. I beat all the levels. Even Hyper Hexagonest. Woo!
5. Auditorium (PC)
Man, this is a diamond. Not overly difficult but an absolutely lovely game. Grabbed it in one of the Humble sales and boy do I not regret it.
6. Sam & Max 302: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak (PC)
Again, not incredibly straightforward puzzles. In fact, you have to switch reels fairly often and at the start, the game makes no mention that learning something in one reel lets you do something extra in another.
7. Scribblenauts Unlimited (PC)
Finally got through this one, as close as I was to finishing. I love Scribblenauts. I'll probably go for the 100% completion soonish.
8. Sam & Max 303: They Stole Max's Brain! (PC)
9. Sam & Max 304: Beyond the Alley of the Dolls (PC)
10. Sam & Max 305: The City that Dares not Sleep (PC)
Same gripes as the other Sam & Max games. I do love the story but the ending really bugged me for some reason.
11. Diddy Kong Racing (N64)
Replayed this one on an emulator on my Ouya. Just as good as I remember. Wizpig is stupid hard. And I actually unlocked TT! I never did that on my cartridge, even though it was my second video game ever...
12. Broken Age: Act 1 (PC)
Just finished this one up. I'm really looking forward to future parts as it was absolutely fantastic. Schafer and crew look like they've put together a gem.

1. Metroid Fusion (GBA)
2. Riviera: The Promised Land (GBA)
3. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (DS)
Can't believe I mentioned this game when I beat Dual Destinies and didn't bother listing it as well. Anyway, yeah, I played AA4. I replayed the first three games last summer and was going to play this then, but didn't get around to it. Overall, game is still mediocre. First case is amazing and goes downhill from there. NEXT.
4. Persona 4 Golden (Vita)
5. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (3DS)
6. Metroid Prime (Wii)
I do love me some Metroid Prime. I especially love it on the Metroid Prime Trilogy--those Wiimote controls are simply the best. I actually had started playing it earlier this week on the Wii U but then ended up restarting because I decided to do a system transfer, thus losing all of my progress. I didn't mind all that much, though, because it gave me the excuse to play even more. I may replay Metroid Prime 2 and 3 while I'm at it but I dunno.

1. Fallout New Vegas (360/PC) - 1/4
2. Castle of Illusion (PC) - 1/5
3. Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) - 1/9
4. Alien Rage (PC) - 1/11
5. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) - 1/19
6. Magic Sword (SNES) - 1-20
Man I love this game more than I should. All the different assist characters give you a lot of choices for play style, and being able to level them up is cool. The game has a cool attack system that rewards you for not spamming the attack to let the meter fill up for a more powerful attack, a la Legendary Axe and Astyanax. There are 50 floors and each of them is rather short, but that just tricked the ADD kid in me into thinking I'm always making tons of progress. I love the music in the game and the graphics are pretty good. The only gripes I have are the massive slowdown that happens pretty often and the fact that enemies don't disappear right away after you defeat them. This leads me to use up my attack meter more often than I should, and to guess wrong that an enemy is dead leading me to walk into them and lose some health. Other than those two issues I really like the game.

Nice. Bad Dudes is legendary, the SNES port of Joe & Mac is way better than the original, Crude Buster has its charm, Heavy Barrel is a legit Ikari clone, Secret Agent is also known as Sly Spy (the name I remember playing it under) and Wizard Fire has one of the goofiest intros ever. Completed six games on the Data East Arcade Classics compilation - used the Classic Controller Pro for all of them.
How good is the emulation on DE classics there? Do they offer good configuration options like Taito Legends?

Re: Games Beaten 2014
The emulation is good.
There's not much in the way of configuration - other than a hard mode that's unlocked once a game is beaten once.
There are five "achievements" (I forgot the the term the game actually uses) to be earned in each game. Generally these aren't too tough to get - a single playthrough of each game should suffice to get all of them, though a specifically timed Game Over may kill any chances for a high score. The achievements can be used to unlock arcade flyers and things of that nature. Unfortunately these achievements are not auto-saved, they have to be saved via a menu. It took me some time to figure this out and by that point most of mine were lost.
There is an "insert quarter" button, which I prefer to have in my arcade comps.
Playing an SNK comp now.
