My wife was totally excited about me buying a candy cab, so I think that says enough about her. I even already told her that I plan to buy a second one in the future and she was totally up for it!
She also just beat Ico for the first time on my ps3!

Re: How Does Your Wife/Girlfriend Feel About Your Retro Gami
My girlfriend usually says " You know, you could be saving that money" all the time when I want to buy a game. I always end up buying it anyways but oh well. She could never get the gaming bug out of me so its something she has to deal with.
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

My girlfriend of over 5 years is a makeup artist and is heavily interested in cosmetics, she most likely has more makeup (with a big setup, similar to my gaming) than I do games. She goes to the cosmetics conventions, etc (I don't go to gaming conventions, but she would not care if I did).
We both don't have the slightest interest in one others 'hobbies', but we both act interested enough when the other talks about it and neither of us ever try to stop or hinder one another likes. No suppression or anything like that.
The only time it ever gets tetchy is if she feels I am ignoring her to play games when she is after some attention, but really it is all about give and take.
As a gamer she only really plays mobile games, Candy Crush, Peggle, Angry Birds, etc.

But it might be. No one will ever know for sure.Luke wrote:I promise that the guy who started this thread isn't me.
This is perfect. It's exactly my girlfriend and me. My girlfriend won't fight me for the Super Nintendo, or even the TV, but she'll play a video game with me and be cool enough about it when I want her too.emwearz wrote:We both don't have the slightest interest in one others 'hobbies', but we both act interested enough when the other talks about it and neither of us ever try to stop or hinder one another likes. And I, too, will bake the cutest of cutesie cupcakes with her. While wearing a cutesie apron.
But it's all just to be kind.

Re: How Does Your Wife/Girlfriend Feel About Your Retro Gami
My husband and I are both gamers, and of different stripes. Although there is definitely some crossover, I'm the retro one and he's the modern one. What I particularly love about this is that I get to "research" games I'm not necessarily interested in playing myself but want to experience or at least become familiar with (e.g. XCOM, Red Dead Redemption, Dragon Age) just by watching him do his thing. And sometimes previewing these games inspires me to give a title a spin that might never have caught my eye otherwise, like Mass Effect, which I love to pieces.
And it's not just that we do our separate things, either. We game socially most of the time, meaning that although one person or other is technically guiding the game with controller in hand, we're both invested. We'll discuss plans of action, strategies, choices, and so on as the game unfolds. I get the impression that we're doing what a lot of other couples do with television shows or movies they watch together.
He's not as concerned with absorbing as much general video game information as I am, so he's not driven to watch general gameplay in quite the same way. But he apparently just enjoys my enthusiasm, which is good, because I am known to make a ruckus when I pull off something particularly challenging or ridiculous.

Re: How Does Your Wife/Girlfriend Feel About Your Retro Gami
My girlfriend doesn't really have a problem with me playing games, but she's not much of a gamer herself. She used to play a few things like Crash Bandicoot and Tekken on the PS1 when she was little, and every now and again she plays a game, normally something co-op with me. It comes in stages - sometimes she'll play a lot for a few days, and then she won't play again for months.
Games she's played through in the 8 years I've been with her include some really good stuff, some of which is stuff I'm not familiar with myself. She owns an XBox 360 and used to have a DS, although now she just uses mine. Although she plays games fairly rarely, the stuff she does play is really quite good.
We've played through these games in co-op: Resident Evil 5, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Harry Potter 1 & 2, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Kirby's Adventure Wii, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby's Dream Land 3 and we're working through Super Mario 3D World. We've also played a fair bit of Mario Kart Wii and Nintendo Land togehter.
Single player stuff she's played since we've been together includes all the Phoenix Wright games, Animal Crossing, Portal 1 & 2, Fallout 3 (here favourite game of all time), Fallout New Vegas, Bioshock, Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town and a few others.
I tend to tell her when I'm making a purchase, even though she doesn't really care as long as I have enough money for bills. I also check it's OK when I make a big purchase, like when I bought my Vita yesterday. She always acts like she's confused when I do, but I think she appreciates me asking really

Re: How Does Your Wife/Girlfriend Feel About Your Retro Gami
My woman likes modern video games a lot. She really likes the Assassins Creed franchise on her 360. I bought her Lollipop Chainsaw for her birthday, and she seems to really like that.
As far as retro video games...most of her retro gaming comes from a few old gameboy cartridges she had when she was a youngster. She is really good at Dig Dug, and she's excellent at Pac-Man. I'd put my woman among the best Pac-Man players I have ever seen. She can whip my posterior at Pac-Man any day that the sun rises in the east. I think those two retro video games are the only ones she truly enjoys. I convinced her to try the Lion King for Sega Genesis once. She does sometimes try to play platformers with me because I enjoy them, but she's as bad at platformers as I am at Pac-Man.

My wife is a gamer and supports my collecting. Some of the games in the collection are hers. Now she games mostly on her 3DS and PC. But the Wii U was mostly for her.
She prefers MMOs, adventure, and puzzle games. Her favorites are Zelda, WoW, Professor Layton, Mario, and the Silent Hill games.

Re: How Does Your Wife/Girlfriend Feel About Your Retro Gami
Well in theory my girl is into retro games. She talks the talk very well. But she has yet to see my collection (we're on opposite sides of the US/Canadian border, and her passport is expired) and truly understand just how much space it takes up. But she does say she wants to spend a week or two just sitting around playing video games when she finally gets her damn passport renewed to come visit me at my home
Hopefully it turns out that she was serious, we'll see.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
