Haven't investors time and time again tried to get Microsoft to sell off the Xbox division? I recall reading that once every few years or so. Or I could be crazy.

The CEO just changed so this might lead to a different outcome. Not to mention we still don't know how well the xbone will perform in the long term. (which will influence any decision made about the xbox devision)

It sounds like Sony has only held on thanks to the Playstation brand. Outside of gaming I think for other things Samsung or LG might have a stronger hold than Sony thesedays, who knows though.

If Xbox disappeared tomorrow, I wouldn't miss them at all. Not picking favorites or anything here, but they seriously didn't really bring anything great to the table. They're damn lucky they even have Halo, otherwise it'd be nothing.

Goes to Sony site....looks at available products: TVs, Computers, Tablets, Smartphones, Speakers......

....yeah, you just don't associate Sony with that stuff anymore. I guess their biggest money maker is Playstation and their movie business......so they are turning into a media company?

That's exactly what's killing Sony is their TV and Mobile markets.. Laptops aren't doing too bad but it's not a major brand for them.. There is no reason to buy a Sony TV when you can buy a comparable LG or Samsung TV at a lower price.. Not to mention the up and coming Vizio Tvs.. They seem to be banking heavily on 4k resolution, but I doubt that takes off until the price is within consumer ranges..

Those with the system, I need advice.

I can get one of the following 3 games (all around $20), which one should I get and why?

Tank Tank Tank
Sonic Lost World
PAC-MAN Ghostly Adventure

I want all 3 but can only get one right now. I think Sonic will drop more, Tank may be low on stock since it has been out for a while and I'm not sure about price and print run of Pac-Man.

The Xbox might not be profitable but sales wise, it was more successful than the NGC and in a few months it will outsell the Wii U and I wouldn't call the 360 a failure against the Wii (80m sold) .

While all Nintendo has is the gaming devision, if it fails Nintendo fails, Microsoft has a huge leverage power from their Windows and Office monopoly. Kind of like how Nintendo can make the Wii U survive from 3DS revenues . The major difference is that Microsoft probably is there to stay in the home room, they want their name there as a brand, kind of how Coca Cola names is every where.

In a plot twist, what if Nintendo buys the Xbox division :p

You really don't understand how businesses work do you? It doesn't matter that xbox sold well and that microsoft has the money to support it. If the stockowners think it is under performing (which it is, since for such a huge investment they gained very little, and the mass market is moving to personal portable devices instead, which I repeat are being ruled by Apple and Google), and that its money should be better spent elsewhere, they will get rid of the xbox division in no time.

Nintendo doesn't have that option cause video games are its only market.

Cult following? What's the use if the cult is not making them a huge profit? And the xbox market is tiny compared to the tablet/smartphone market which THEY NEED to win marketshare in.

Just look at Nokia. It gave up its entire devices devision, its bread and butter for the past 2 decades. Investors don't like pointless risk, and the truth of the matter is that no matter how much gamers like the xbox it has cost a lot of money, brought very little of it back, and unless they can pull a Sony (total dominance of the gaming market during PS1 and PS2 eras) or a Nintendo (huuuuuuuuuuuuuge profit margins on the hardware of the Wii and DS, combined with the high number of sales leading to huge profits), they just won't be able to recoup those loses anywhere fast enough for them to be happy.

Specially since the biggest reason to join the console market in the first place (becoming a strong player in the digital distribution of media revolution) has moved out of the living room and into mp3 players (itunes kicking their ass), e-readers (a fucking book store website has a better strategy than microsoft), tablets, smartphones, and smart tvs and set up streaming boxes (for netflix ect.).

Tell me where was microsoft when all those new markets were opening up? Busy getting fratboys to play call of duty on their console? I don't want to be offensive to the entire community, but you have to realize, WE are the only ones who care this much. The fans. To the investors we are just man-children who haven't grown up and love playing with toys in our 20s-30s-40s.

So if they don't think they stand a chance to make a good profit on us, they have no reason to stay in the industry (by putting their money in a company that's part of the industry).

It is different for Nintendo cause THIS IS ALL THEY DO. When you buy nintendo stock, you know you are investing into the console market. If you think that kids won't buy handheld consoles cause they prefer to play with tablet games, you sell your nintendo stock and you buy samsung.

But if you are seeing all the other companies invest into markets you believe your company should have invested in, you ask your board of directors why are we not in there?

Get Sonic Lost World! Yeah, it has its flaws, but it also has some of the best moments in a 3D Sonic game. I enjoyed it anyways.

I can't comment on the others though, as I haven't played them.
