My fiance is a bit of a gamer herself and she is kind of an old school kind of gamer. What I mean is, she's into the Zeldas, the Harvest Moons, the Raymans, the Spyros, the Pikmins, the Marios etc, and not so much the more modern series and games. So, she's kind of ok with it and we do have some similar tastes in games. She just doesn't understand why I need to many consoles and so many games and why I keep on buying games when I actually finish so few of them.

I talk to her about it to help her fall asleep at night.

My wife owns her own SNES which she's kept in mint condition with box and all for almost two decades, she kicked ass at dsheinem's Ballz3D tournament (yeah, yeah, spamming, whatever), has a killer score in Tetris, keeps up with me at Dr. Mario and Mario Kart 64, and loves herself some platformers and RPGs—fighters, too, but just not against me. She's logged in tons of hours on Civilization, and is pretty damn good when we play Rise of Nations with others (and, of course, we both dominate when we play just the computer).

She even likes various non-video games, too. Just yesterday she went with her co-workers to play Settlers of Catan, where, I found out later, she proceeded to make them envious by telling them about my video game collection. One guy (they're all young) asked if I had a Genesis, saying that that is how you can tell a true, elite gamer. I laughed and told her afterward that that's what non-gamers think about games. Meanwhile, owning a solid PC Engine/CD collection or an AES collection or a cab collection, that's elite.

My wife does not like gaming. She played the Sims on the PC when we first met and that's about it - she now plays the mobile version. She will play any of the "New Super Mario" games and didn't mind Little Big Planet, but she is not a gamer.

My wife does have other hobbies - she likes to read, crochet, makes all the bread and other stuff we eat around here (from scratch no mix, bread makers, etc - she also make her own soaps/cleaners... she is one of those new green/"clean living & eating" types). Many nights she is doing her thing and I do my thing. We hang out to watch TV/Movies a couple nights a week and one or both weekend nights. The other nights she is either in the kitchen cooking/baking up a storm after the kids are asleep or on the couch reading, crocheting or chatting with me while I play a game.

During the day we spend a lot of time together with the kids so at night we both want to wind down and since we have different hobbies we have no problem letting each other do our own thing. Since she does not work and we only have one income, she has no problem with me collecting as long as I don't spend any of my paycheck on stuff - trades and paypal only.

I am married and have a daughter.

My wife rarely plays video games. When she does she prefers puzzle games like Tetris and Puzzle Bobble - as well as classic arcade titles like Bubble Bobble and Flicky. What's hilarious is that on the rare occasion she does play video games she's super competitive (she's the same way when she plays board games).

As a general rule I never play video games unless my daughter is sleeping. And probably 80% of my gaming is done while my wife is sleeping as well (she goes to bed 2-3 hours before me). So while the gaming aspect doesn't effect our relationship, the collecting part is a different story. I don't work so any money I spend is technically money my wife made at her job. So I have to restrain myself every now and then. Thankfully I have pretty "cheap" taste in games (I love sports games, Atari stuff, etc) so it never becomes much of an issue. But on rare occasions I do have to "save" up some gaming money for something larger - like the Wii U, which I still have yet to procure.

I have made it clear than when we move into a house of our own I will need space for all my games and collectibles - she's cool with that.

My girlfriend is a big gamer.

I can't say for sure if she considers herself a "retro" gamer, since we've never really talked about it. Though I know for a fact there are quite a few older games that she loves. Diablo 2, just about all of the classic Final Fantasy titles, all the classic Residents Evils, just to name a few. She mostly plays newer games though.

My "collecting" definitely doesn't get in the way. Mostly because we don't live together yet. But also because I only "collect" games that I fully intend to play, and as such I don't really own a ton of games or spend too much money on them that it could become a problem.

As for my family though, they don't really get it. My young sister likes video games but wouldn't touch anything older than a PS2 with a three foot pole. My mother doesn't play video games, and neither do any of my older sisters. All of my family thinks anime is "weird."
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Let me guess she just like my wife in fighting games. She picks a girl, she crouches during the whole game and just kicks till your out of bounds or dies. lol
Anyways my wife doesn't mind at all about video games. Hell she has played games from time to time. But the one thing she really got tired of and even my relationship was hurting from it was buying a system buying a ton of games for it then sell it all to only get something else do the same thing and in 6 months to a year get the first system I sold to only get it back and try to get all the games back that I sold but now the prices have doubled. Then I also would lie about buying games and she would find the receipts a day or two later and ask why he have no money in our bank account.
Now that I only collect dreamcast and just play a few 360 games that I own. she's cool with my dreamcast collection as long as I spend 25.00 a month for my spending.

she does always pick a girl (Tina) but in fairness so do I (Kasumi... sometimes Ayane). But no, she's surprisingly good. The DOA games are the only fighters she really enjoys. She's so good w/ Tina's grabs. I can't fight with 'wrestler' style characters. So I'll be doing crazy fast combos with Kasumi, but if she gets in close enough to grab me she throws me around and stomps me into an embarrassed mess.

She supports it. She has joined in on the fun with her search for the original Dragon Warrior games.

plus she bought me an SNES and pointed out various things that I scored during hunting trips
