Random Gaming Thoughts

I do not think the kinect is going to work. I do not see myself jumping around the room to play a platformer . It might good for kiddy games like sesame street where you get a prompt saying "Now CLAP!" and a 5 year old will clap and the X1 will respond "WoW! You did it!" . But nothing mainstream.
Even so, I believe Sony has their own camera technology too and if I am not wrong Microsoft is making the Kinect compatible with Windows which means it will make the X1 even less unique .
The 360 and PS3 are probably the most similar consoles in videogame history, only the X1 and PS4 are more similar. PS3 had the free online and the Bluray player and the more reliable hardware, those are the biggest differences between the systems which does not necessarily provide a better gaming experience on either or . If you are saying that there are reasons outside gaming that makes the consoles unique like X1 can record TV and the PS4 lets you publish games to Twitch I can agree but this does not count towards the experience of playing games.
I do not see why Sega or Nintendo will stop making their franchise games just because they turned into software company, I see the exact opposite. With the Wii U they probably can release just 1 metroid game, but they can release a Metroid for iOS/Android which is different from the Triple A title for X1/PS4 which probably will be different from the ones on the Vita/3DS.
Can you imagine how much money Nintendo will make if they release Mario Party for iPhone and make it playable online with friends? I think they will surpass GTA 5 sales.

People said the same thing about motion controls. Regardless if you think it will work or not, you can't deny that it is something unique about it, and it is not a minor part to the console!RCBH928 wrote:@Violent By Design

The Kinect doesn't work with windows, and the PS4 has no Kinect to my knowledge.Even so, I believe Sony has their own camera technology too and if I am not wrong Microsoft is making the Kinect compatible with Windows which means it will make the X1 even less unique .
This seems like a massive double standard. The 360 and PS3 are probably the most similar consoles in videogame history, only the X1 and PS4 are more similar. PS3 had the free online and the Bluray player and the more reliable hardware, those are the biggest differences between the systems which does not necessarily provide a better gaming experience on either or .
If anything, those are real differences between the consoles. What is the difference between a SNES and Genesis? One has Mario and one has Sonic? In the grand scheme of things, a SNES and Genesis are far more similar to each other than the 360 and the PS3. You're essentially saying that because the 360 and PS3 actually have legit different features, that they're the same thing - when most consoles prior to them didn't even have extra features period.
It's like "both these consoles have nothing but really good graphics" - that's how it has always been. All the consoles before that have always been about putting out something with the hottest/up to date graphics.
People say that the software is the same, but if it was why did I feel the need to buy a PS3 even after having a 360? The PS3 has plenty of games you cannot get on a 360, and vice versa. If you do not have a PC or a PC that can run modern games (like mine), then there's even more reason to buy them.
You say that those consoles are more similar, but are they really more similar than Atari 2600 and its rivals? The only reason why the later eras even look different is because one publisher would literally hog all of the 3rd parties to themselves. Without control of all the third parties, all the consoles would look "the same" as they do now.
How is this any different from the 6th generation or 4th generation? Or even 2nd and 3rd generation games? If you are saying that there are reasons outside gaming that makes the consoles unique like X1 can record TV and the PS4 lets you publish games to Twitch I can agree but this does not count towards the experience of playing games.
The 5th generation is the only generation that seems wildly different both hardware and software wise, and that's because it was a prototypical phase in the gaming industry, where people did not know how to approach 3D properly. All of those differences were not done for the sake of being different.

I agree.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
technically Space Harrier IS on Dreamcast - both in Shenmue and the rarer Yu Suzuki collection.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Space Harrier is on the Saturn by the way. Through Sega Ages in the USA and through a stand alone in Japan.
It's in fact the best version, since you can either play at the normal 30fps or if you really want something smooth, you can set it to 60 fps. It's beautiful.

Isn't that just a port though and not a 5th gen original?

I was gonna point this out, and Space Harrier on 32X and Game Gear; in addition to the already mentioned Master System and Genesis ones.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
For my next game purchase: Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D on 3DS or Sonic Generations on Xbox 360?

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'm willing to bet DKCR is better, but I'm in the minority that though Generations was just "okay" I guess. I still only liked classic Sonic and even then, the music and visuals were forgettable (too busy, hard to even see what's going on sometimes).
Similar to Burning's post above, not too sure what I want to play next:
Thoughts?
- Donkey Kong Country Returns
- The Last Remnant
- Pandora's Tower
- Anarchy Reigns
- Armored Core 4 Answer
- Binary Domain
- Castlevania Lords of Shadow
- Deadly Premonition
- Infamous 2
- Jak & Daxter HD
- Killzone 3
- Kingdom Hearts HD
- Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
- Ninja Gaiden 2
- Ratchet & Clank Future Tools of Destruction
- Sly 2-3
- Zone of the Enders 2
Think I'll be pretty poor this year, thankfully pretty stocked up here...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Play the Jak Collection and Ratchet and Clank. While you're doing that, throw away Ninja Gaiden 2 (assuming it's the 2008 game).

Oop, it's the PS3 release Sigma 2.
Not that it sounds like that matters much, I don't know. I've heard a lot of mixed things and my memories of the 360 aren't very good. I want more good hack n' slash games, but I might just give Bayonetta another shot someday.
