Kinda off-topic, but:
Is there a forum based around Music Rhythm games, where people run scoreboards and such, similar to Shmups?

Yes, of course. The biggest site right now is Zenius-I-Vanisher (http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/index.php) which has dedicated scoreboards fordunpeal2064 wrote:Is there a forum based around Music Rhythm games, where people run scoreboards and such, similar to Shmups?

Awesome! One of my favorite genres, but I had never thought to look for a forum until seeing this thread.
I've been playing a lot of DJ Max Technika Tune while on the go, and mixing it up between some oldschool Frequency and Amplitude, and a little Beatmania IIDX (Need a controller for this so bad).
And, of course, the occasional Guitar Hero, although that one is usually not very challenging.

If you are looking for a controller but don't feel hardcore enough for a DjDao (Arcade perfect, 300€), you have two options.
1) Buy a Japanese official Konami controller, which will be somewhat expensive
2) Buy an American official Konami controller, which is much cheaper but most sellers won't ship outside of the US. (Forums can help you here)
I have one of each and both are truly great controllers. They are very solid, durable and heavy, much better than a Guitar Hero controller by a significant margin.
I used to play DDR and Pump it Up but I haven't played in ages. I'm trying to break into Beatmania doubles now and I might get into Guitar Freaks/Drummania (Cheap option) or Pop'n (Expensive option since I want an ASC). Anyways, I love music games so send me a PM if you are interested
