Modern gaming forum recommendations?
Modern gaming forum recommendations?
I hope this post is cool to put here. I really love the RacketBoy community but sometimes I feel like I want to talk more about modern games. I don't want to flood a retro forum with chat about too many modern / current video games so I wanted to find a good place to post about that. I know there are lots of big choices for communities like IGN, NeoGaf, Reddit, etc but I was hoping to find a good medium to small sized community like this one as it is most conclusive to interesting discussion. Can anyone recommend a forum like that?

Re: Modern gaming forum recommendations?
DigitPress has a modern gaming sub-forum. They also have a very small user base, and very few these days participate there, but you will probably get good recommendations for games. AtariAge may also be more what you're looking for. They're much larger, but not as screwed up large as NeoGAF/IGN/GameFAQs etc.
Re: Modern gaming forum recommendations?
The weird part is, when I got here I was a little apprehensive about posting anything post SNES-era. But most of this forum seems pretty okay with talking about anything Videogaming related, be ancient or current.
I've never once felt like talking current gen gaming was unwelcome here, and maybe I am just lucky... but really, what experience here make you feel like it won't work out talking about that stuff?
and to answer your question-
Unfortunately when it comes to modern games, the crowds for those tend to splinter off into non-generalized message boards that specifically focus on a particular game or franchise. There's too many games and too many ways to access them now, to ever really rein it all in under one general board. When you try... you get shit like Gamefaqs and Neogaf, which is just an explosion of random nonsense and free form trolling.
Good luck on whatever you choose; but I really feel like I can talk about any game here, and will continue to do so.

cha cha - Thanks for the reassurance. I haven't had any bad experiences, I just didn't want to annoy anyone by being too off topic. I have been in a PC and 3DS phase lately and not playing many of my retro games backlog so I was thinking I should direct that energy else where. But if you all don't see it as a problem I'll gladly stay here.

dood. Although the website itself is surely retro-focused, the forum is very varied. There's lots of us that embrace ALL games regardless of year they were released. And there's def folks here who play far more current games than old games. Don't worry about bothering anyone. I actually dare you to name a current game you want to talk about that isn't already being talked about here.kelsoanim wrote:cha cha - Thanks for the reassurance. I feel i talk more about modern games here at racketboy than retro games
Re: Modern gaming forum recommendations?
It's far too late for it now, but I kind of wish that modern gaming would have been kept separate from retro gaming. Then again, that would have inevitably brought up the perennial headache of "what is retro?"

I'm guilty of starting a couple of those. I learned my lesson very quickly.o.pwuaioc wrote: Then again, that would have inevitably brought up the perennial headache of "what is retro?"
Re: Modern gaming forum recommendations?
For modern game "discussion", there is no contest: NeoGAF. However, since there are literally thousands of people on at any given time, there is little actual discussion. Topics fly by so fast, and anything you post will be lost in the flood. It's useful to browse occasionally to discover obscure news items, but posting often feels pointless.
I was using it exclusively for the recent months, but it is fatiguing. I decided I preferred smaller communities such as this and NintendoAge.
